I often integrate IFS (parts work), mindfulness based and somatic strategies and draw from Psychodynamic and Coherence Therapy.
I feel it is an honor and privilege to serve as a therapist. Creating a partnership with clients, I work to provide a safe, warm, nurturing and empathic space. My goal as an EMDR therapist is to work collaboratively with clients- creating transformative healing and change, and increasing self understanding and self compassion. I currently have availability for intensive EMDR- individually tailored (half, full or multi day therapy) in person at my Philadelphia location or online (PA and NJ residents).

I often integrate somatic techniques and knowledge from Yogic philosophy, Feminist Theory, CBT, and DBT.
My passion lies in fostering a non-judgmental environment to explore your patterns and experiences. I bring a blend of warmth, empathy, and occasional humor to our sessions, helping you process life challenges with more groundedness and resilience. I particularly enjoy working with adolescent clients and adults ages 18-40, and I have a special interest in life transitions, relationships, family-of-origin wounds, and trauma. Other areas of interest include anxiety, people-pleasing, ADHD, women's issues, coping and communication skills, codependency, career guidance, stress management, and self-esteem cultivation.

There are so many reasons to seek out therapy. Maybe you have been in therapy for years, maybe this is your first time. Whatever the reason or your experience, I am glad that you are here. Therapy can be a brave space that we build to reflect on what is happening for you, to process the road that led you here and to set in place obtainable, sustainable response strategies. To do so, we will incorporate a blend of somatic and psychodynamic therapies to unpack current, historical and intergenerational traumas.

It can be hard to face our feelings, and sometimes challenging to put them into words. Our deepest, most painful experiences can be overwhelming and scary. I’m here to hold a safe space to help you work through whatever issue that is troubling you. My aim as a therapist is to help you find ways to heal and access a more authentic self. I will help you find your strengths, and guide you through areas in your life that need change. If you are struggling with an eating disorder, disordered eating, body image concerns or chronic dieting, I would love to help.

I fully believe that every human has done and is doing the best they can with the tools they have or were given, whether effective or ineffective, with the information the body has interpreted and stored. The body and brain is malleable, flexible, and able to change. Let’s re-align with our inner-knowing, physical sensations, and core-values; change our interpretations and the narrative, to cultivate a new path forward that supports you as you level up with new and more effective tools. There is hope and I am so honored to join you on this next part of your journey.

I work for The Center For Growth, treating everything from mental health to sex and relationship issues. I can help you manage thing like anxiety and depression as we explore and understand complex emotions in a safe space and find healthy and effective ways to express and release those feelings. We can immerse ourselves in exploration of your past as we make connections and gain understanding of how old patterns show up for you today. Or we can focus on the here and now, identifying what behaviors and thoughts are no longer serving you so you can create new goals that support your growth, in whatever way feels right to you.

Do you frequently think “what’s wrong with me?” or “no one likes me" or "the world is completely against me”. Does everything feels like an uphill battle or a heavy weight on your shoulders? Maybe you feel empty all the time, or like you have a lump in your throat. Perhaps you keep on making the same mistakes. Mistakes that cause you, and at times others, hurt. If any of this resonates with you, first off, realize that nothing is "wrong" with you. You need a non-judgmental ear who gets where you are coming from, can help guide you through these feelings, and give you tools and hope.

Figuring it out often feels like waiting for the world to pause so we can catch-up and the pieces finally fall together. As you well know, those pauses often are not long enough and can lack the kind of tools, insights, and support needed. We are then left asking, what else is there? I believe that these curiosities, feeling all that we do, is meant to connect us to our true self by learning to know ourselves in every way and love ourselves deeply. The journey of growth and healing involves the use of many different tools, a powerful one being the tool of therapy.

Life is a complex journey that challenges us as we move through it. All the experiences we encounter affect the way we interact and interpret our internal and external worlds. When these worlds become overwhelming, associated with negative beliefs, and/or affect our daily functioning it may be time to find support. I believe that we all have the ability to overcome barriers and obstacles that come our way throughout this journey. Each of us can grow and change through the very strengths we have within ourselves. Sometimes these strengths can be hard to access when we are going through a challenging time.

Healing happens relationally–within our communities, our families, and within ourselves. Therapy works best if we can build a safe and trusting relationship, so you should know a little bit about who I am! I am a white, queer and trans femme musician turned therapist. I am areligious, but I find many experiences to be deeply spiritual, including cooking, being in community with others, singing together, and walking in nature. Folks who do well with me don't fit the status quo, are navigating transitions, are noticing patterns in their relationships they want to examine and change, and are in search of healing and transformation.

My approach is trauma-informed and holistic, drawing from attachment theory, somatic and mindfulness practices.
Do you feel like your life isn't quite where you imagined it would be? You're not alone. Many of us long for deeper connection, a sense of peace and satisfaction, but struggle to achieve this. Together, we'll explore what maybe blocking you, so you can live a life that feels good and right for you. I help adults experiencing depression, anxiety, C-PTSD, relationship issues and grief to gain clarity, heal and grow. My work includes helping clients navigate relationships with emotionally immature parents/adults and develop sustainable self-care practices.

Utilizing cognitive and somatic techniques from modalities such as EMDR, ACT, Brainspotting, and IFS, I can assist in breaking cycles of harm you may feel trapped in.
Therapy can be such an overwhelming process to get started with, especially when you may also be struggling with ADHD, trauma symptoms, or anxiety that make everyday tasks feel monumental. For marginalized people in particular, feeling safe and truly seen by their therapist may be particularly challenging. As a Black, queer, neurodivergent therapist with 10 years experience, my approach is relational, strengths-based, person-centered, affirming, and anti-oppressive. Together we'll implement accessible, functional strategies to help you close the gap between the life you're living and the life you envision for yourself.

My approach to supporting clients draws inspiration from abolitionists, somatic practitioners, attachment, critical race, and queer theories.
Are you curious about how your exploration of your inner experiences could deepen your relationship to yourself and the world around you? Hi, I’m Jess. I’m a queer, black clinician who believes that we are all simultaneously imperfect and good, that our relationships shape who we are, and that we have all of the wisdom we need to heal. In my work as a therapist I’ve had the honor of sitting beside my clients as they cultivate curiosity and compassion for themselves, repair relational and systemic wounds, and recognize their ability to shape change in their lives.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
