I offer short-term, goal-oriented therapy, working through difficult problems such as anxiety, depression, anger management, divorce, substance abuse, sexual, professional, or relationship problems.
Therapy is not a long-term, drawn-out process. Some individuals may need extensive therapy, but most need help at particular times of crisis or when they realize that they need another perspective on themselves or their relationships with their husband or wife, children, family, co-workers, or friends. My approach begins with the here and now, and I assist clients in developing concrete ways to overcome issues standing in their way. My belief echoes the old saying, "You are not the problem; the problem is the problem.

Have you ever felt as though it was hard to ask for help, whether it was with something small that happens in life, or perhaps when more complicated situations arise? What about when those distressing thoughts just “pop” into your mind, and the uncomfortable feelings occur? It can be very uncomfortable, and even exhausting, to try to cope with those thoughts and feelings. Maybe you’ve fallen into some habits that you would like to talk about and understand better, or even change but are unsure about how to start. Or maybe you’re going through a significant loss or a change. Do you feel like you just aren’t yourself these days?

My practice has been balanced by working with both wo men and men.
It is important that you know I already believe in you. You are looking for someone who can help you, understand you, and work with you. I will work hard to create a space where you can talk openly, and make changes to feel better. You have strengths and abilities that we can build on. You have goals and hopes, even if you can’t put them into words yet. Whether you are looking to make a small change or a long, difficult change, I am prepared to support you. I look forward to welcoming you, hearing you, and working together to develop the life you want.

Deciding to begin psychotherapy is one of the kindest and most important choices you can make for yourself. It can be a turning point in your life, but it can also feel scary to talk to someone you don't know well. I work with individuals and couples, providing a warm, safe, confidential environment where I will listen carefully and where we will work together to understand and resolve the issues you are struggling with--both in terms of how they affect your current life and in terms of how they became issues in the first place.

I love getting to know my clients deeply as hu man beings, each and every one is a person worthy of curious and caring exploration! Clients have told me that I’m deeply non judgemental, and very sincere and authentic.
I am patient, calm, thoughtful, kind, and trustworthy, with a deep passion for bringing people to a newfound perspective about themselves and what they’re bringing to therapy. We will seek to understand why you are feeling the way you feel, learn coping tools to help decrease your distress now, and heal the deeper cause underlying your presenting problem. My expertise is working with trauma, uncovering how the past reflects the present, stress and anxiety, ADHD & neurodivergence, and clients in the LGBTQIA+, disability, academic, and Jewish communities.

I specialize in working with folks with ADHD and other neurodivergent-types in NJ and PA but also heavily work with anxiety, depression, and issues surrounding activation and assertiveness. So I'm very action-oriented in my approach and that's because I believe when we see and experience change it can help build momentum. People are resilient, creative, and adaptive but sometimes we get stuck. (And when we neurodivergent folks get stuck we get really stuck!) Let's work to build awareness, strategies, and change!

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
