Whether you’re dealing with the loss of a loved one, experiencing a loss of identity, or facing other significant life changes, I’m here to help you find a path through the chaos. I specialize in supporting people who are navigating various forms of grief and loss, including more hidden kinds of grief like losing a sense of self or dealing with disenfranchised grief that may not be openly acknowledged by others. I also focus on helping highly empathetic individuals who struggle with people-pleasing tendencies. I’ll guide you in setting healthy boundaries, understanding how the past shapes the present and overcoming low self-worth.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, eating concerns, relationship issues, college/grad school/career concerns, and the impacts of oppression on our mental health.
Your healing and wholeness are important. Sometimes relationships can hurt us, sometimes trauma harms us, and the very act of living in this world can cause pain. And sometimes, we are trying the best we can to cope and survive. I believing healing is possible for all of us. I approach therapy from a place that affirms and honors your whole self. I will empower you and hold space for you as you face what has been painful, unlearn patterns that no longer serve you, and honor your needs. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I treat a wide range of mental health concerns, and I provide support to individuals, families, and couples.

Because you will be putting a good deal of time, money, and energy into therapy, you should choose a therapist carefully. I believe you should feel comfortable with the therapist you choose, and hopeful about the therapy process. When you feel this way, therapy is more likely to be helpful to you. I have more than 20 years helping people work through grief and loss, life transitions, relationship struggles, career indecision, anxiety and depression. In addition, I have considerable experience helping individuals struggling with issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

Maybe you've noticed yourself worrying more or mulling over regrets. Or something has happened that you need to talk though: it could be a breakup, a loss, a layoff, an illness, or something else. You want more than passive uh-huh’s, but not a new boss either. I will take a calm walk with you through your life. My hope is you will feel heard and accepted both for who you are right now and who you want to become.

I also work with clients struggling with complicated grief over the loss of a pet/companion animal as these losses are sometimes hard to grieve.
I think of the therapeutic relationship as a workshop where clients can plan, tinker, experiment, test, and refine parts of themselves, their relationships, and their lives with my unwavering support. It's a place and time where we can collaborate on what might need to change, what tools are necessary for the task, and on the ways it might begin to unfold. I create and hold a safe place for clients to ponder, practice, and consider change-- especially when they struggle to maintain that space for themselves. As a trauma informed practitioner, I am able to ground and contain intense affect to help clients feel held.

I also provide support for those impacted by a sudden violent death, especially mothers who have lost a child due to violence.
Welcome! It takes courage to ask for help and support and so if you are here now I congratulate you for taking this first big step. The idea of therapy can be scary but if you think of it as a safe place to share life's challenges and receive support then it will hopefully take away some of that fear and trepidation. My intention and goal is to offer support so that we can work through any conflicts together and move toward more inner peace. I look forward to hearing from you. I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years experience currently based in Pennsylvania.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
