Are you ready to navigate the complexities of your life and discover profound healing? My approach is rooted in the belief that healing begins with understanding and embracing the unknown aspects of our experiences. I specialize in treating trauma, disordered eating, body image struggles, and sexuality issues. I enjoy the thrill of not knowing what we are going to uncover next about each person I work with. I work from a lens of body positivity and fat positivity, decolonizing therapy, feminist, systems, and psychodynamic approaches.

One of the greatest sources of distress and unhappiness comes from the inability to attach and feel full authenticity in our relationships. Whether the relationships are family based, interpersonal, or intimate; the ability to openly communicate and achieve safety is a major key to mental and emotional fulfillment. However, generational, complex, and individual traumas can impact how we function in our lives and relationships. Therapy with me allows for you and/or your partner build healthy skills to communication, heal, and begin to rebuild your story individually and together.

I provide therapy to adults who are ready to create profound, lasting change within themselves. Do you identify as a high achiever or a people pleaser? Do you find yourself going from over-working to zoned out and disconnected? Does it feel like no matter how hard you work or how much you do, you never feel good enough? Parts of you want to feel more connected and joyful, while other parts of you keep you distracted and disconnected. I help highly motivated individuals learn to understand themselves and calm the internal conflict inside of them. I'm successful at what I do, and right now you need an expert to guide you.

Hello, my name is Kia Izzard. I’m a licensed clinical social worker. I’ve been a social worker for over 20 years. I assist clients in increasing their insight and awareness of their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. I delve into what’s going on presently. I listen and help them to reflect and feel validated. I don’t subscribe to any one therapeutic modality other than telling your story, which I do with narrative therapy techniques. I believe that those who are marginalized, those who experience trauma, or those who feel like they don’t have a voice, can benefit from narrative therapy techniques.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
