I believe that people are naturally resilient, possessing a deep well of inner strength. Every experience, past and present, is relevant to therapeutic work, and I strive to create a collaborative space to explore the things that weigh us all down. I approach each session with empathy, curiosity and an open mind, and encourage you to approach your own relationships, thoughts, and day-to-day life the same way. My relational approach to therapy is strongly rooted in the psychodynamic tradition, integrating narrative, DBT, and mindfulness techniques to meet the specific needs of each person I work with.

My therapeutic approaches draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Psychodynamics, Gestalt Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Practices, and Cultural-Relational Therapy.
How do we feel, think and be present? It’s easier said than done. Yet, feeling, thinking, and simply being- though often uncomfortable, are fundamentally what make us human! During our sessions, we will explore what it means to feel, think, and be. I welcome you as you are, regardless of where you are in your journey. If you’re coming in with learned habits and thinking patterns that no longer serve you, we can work together to discover the possibilities of unlearning and relearning. By collaborating, we can understand what it means to develop insight into life’s difficult thoughts, feelings, relationships, and experiences.

The theories I use most often in my work include: CBT, DBT, MI, and ACT.
Coming to therapy is a big decision: sometimes we know right away what we want to focus on; other times, it takes a while to find what it is we want to discover about ourselves. I value taking the time to build a relationship with my clients that allows them to feel like they are the leaders of their own treatment. As a clinician, my goals are your goals. You set the stage in our sessions, and I am the one who helps guide you to where you need to be. I believe in building a therapeutic relationship that allows for openness, understanding, trust, and empathy; and the best and most effective clinical work happens when you feel safe.

I utilize different treatment modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic/Mindfulness approaches, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT) while individualizing interventions based on identity and cultural backgrounds.
What does therapy mean to you? What makes it so beneficial? How many thoughts, feelings, expectations, questions are you noticing as you take the first step in finding the “right” therapist? You are not alone. Therapy is a collaborative relationship in which I cultivate an open and non-judgmental atmosphere to equip you in facilitating change, fostering vulnerability, and promoting a rich and meaningful life. Whether you want to work towards specific life goals, change, or stressors including complex trauma, cultural issues, anxiety/depression, I strive to guide you through the process and help tackle the "But what will people say?"

I have been using IFS, DBT, EMDR to assist clients to process not just their thoughts, but also their emotions and body sensations.
Do you feel the pressure to be perfect all the time? Do you tend to replay a moment from the day over and over again? Are you scared to go to sleep because of the nightmares? Do you feel that you cannot trust yourself? Do you procrastinate and struggle with focusing on tasks?. Is there always a “I should’ve …” in your head? Do you feel out of control or not “normal”? Do you sometimes wonder what you could’ve done without anxiety and past trauma? Would you like to feel "normal", confident, and calm? Would you like to be able to like yourself and be able to get things done?

I believe that everyone is unique in their own way and that everyone's personal background brings a unique perspective. I aim to explore that perspective and help guide client’s in a place where they feel safe and comfortable. This allows for mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth. I create an individualized treatment plan for each client and help them develop realistic and attainable goals. Psychoeducation is an intervention I often incorporate and I tend to put an emphasis on coping skills, self care, and healthy boundaries, as they are all a very important piece of the healing and growing process.

My ideal client is ready to think big. They are ready to recognize their power by becoming more aware of unhealthy behavior patterns and belief systems in relationships and within themselves that are keeping them from aligning with who they truly are. They are willing to take small steps at a time and understand that forming better habits takes consistency, experiences and possibly saying "no." They want to be heard by someone that has the mental space to listen. They want to learn how to live in the present and learn how to love unconditionally.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
