I specialize in mood disorders (such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder), relationship and peer issues, grief and loss and stressful life transitions.
Often people find themselves to be stuck or unhappy and they don't know how they got there. Or maybe there is a specific problem you're dealing with and you need an outside perspective and unbiased help working through it and getting back to a more comfortable and productive place. Sometimes it's helpful to just have a safe space to share what's going on inside your head. I consider therapy a natural and helpful extension of your regular daily life. My hope is that sessions with me are conversations and explorations into what you think about and what you want for yourself and your relationships.

I really love working with women and teens 12 and up on issues such as grief and loss, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and relational problems.
Asking for help is hard. When life gets to be overwhelming, talking about the issues can help organize your thoughts. The therapeutic relationship is the most important tool we'll use! We'll work on building trust, a sense of safety, open communication, and humor to identify how we can improve on your already existing coping skills, supports, and knowledge. I utilize an eclectic approach to best meet your needs. I believe that being kind and compassionate with yourself is the first step to healing and creating change.

Although I have experience working with depression, anxiety, self-harm, grief, trauma, suicide, loneliness, and identity exploration, I am open to working with any presenting concern.
I hope to collaboratively explore the layers of your inner world by building a safe-enough space through our relationship. Therapy can be (and is almost always) a painful and vulnerable experience, yet also immensely rewarding. My therapy process seeks to identify how all internal and external forces throughout our life shape who we are and how we navigate the world today, to enact change. Non-judgmental curiosity and compassion are essential in this process. I primarily practice from a trauma-informed, relational psychodynamic lens, but often integrate components of CBT, humanism, somatic awareness, and family systems theory.

I specialize in work with adults, mature adults, and older adults working through depression, anxiety, grief and loss, among other issues.
A wise man once told me, “Life is like a circle, at different points on the circumference we view the same core.” This reminded of therapy. How at different points on the circumference of our lives, different transitions, losses, relationship issues, or medical issues introduce themselves and we view how our core responds. Sometimes depression, anxiety, anger, and fear arise. We can continue to look away and ignore these responses that interfere with our goals, or we can decide we are going to work with a therapist. Together we embrace that core in ways that help and enrich each point on the circumference.

I will help you find practical solutions to life's obstacles, as well as a deeper understanding of the emotional blocks that have held you back. I offer you my focus, warmth and training, while gently nudging you towards your treatment goals. Previous to my clinical training, I spent nearly two decades in public media. I will channel the same curiosity and inquisitive spirit from my previous career into my therapeutic relationship with you.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
