I am a licensed professional counselor that is person-centered and utilizes psychodynamic, existential and CBT/ DBT/ACT approaches.
I view the mental health recovery process as similar to climbing a mountain: the first steps may feel overwhelming at times, however, therapy is a partnership where I can provide tools that help my clients get where they would like to go, while also building resiliency and strength for the future. Throughout the process, I will provide encouragement and at times, remind you to look back at how far you have come. Furthermore, I provide a non-judgmental and empathic space for this journey to occur.

I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
The decision to seek help for life's issues can be both scary and exciting. I know how important it is to have someone to talk with, who can see more objectively than we can see ourselves. I have worked extensively with people who have mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar, anxiety and panic, anger problems, communication and relationship difficulties, and more. I have worked with many people who feel that their spiritual relationship has been damaged or destroyed. Spirituality does not have to be part of our work, but if you have spiritual wounds that you would like to work on, I can help you to heal them.

We will create individualized treatment with my knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT).
The human existence is something I am deeply interested in and I bring to the therapeutic environment a curious and accepting mind that helps us understand and embrace what makes you uniquely you.
As a trauma-informed counselor, I am happy to provide the opportunity to explore the ways your life experiences have impacted your mind, body, and spirit. Taking a mindfulness approach to trauma, I aim to reconnect you with the present by utilizing mind and body interventions while creating a safe space to explore the past.
My approach to therapy is primarily influenced on individual client needs which means meeting you where you are at.

I practice using aspects from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
As someone who has been on both sides of the therapy chair, I understand how vulnerable therapy can make you feel and how intimidating it can be. My focus is on creating a therapeutic relationship to allow for authenticity and empathy. I believe that by gaining insight and learning about the relationships we hold with ourselves and those we interact with, we gain a sense of understanding, confidence and security.

I use relational, CBT, and DBT and incorporate some humor, while encouraging clients to focus on nonjudgment and non reactivity to thoughts and feelings, and self acceptance.
My approach to therapy is focused on providing the tools and coping skills needed to manage struggles, build self awareness and enhance insight into the root cause of your internal discomfort. Building insight may involve discussing core beliefs that developed during childhood or within relational experiences and exploring how these impact your current thought patterns and behaviors. I specialize in treating women with perinatal disorders, infertility and relationship issues. I often work with individuals to enhance assertiveness, empowerment, and confidence.

The theories I use most often in my work include: CBT, DBT, MI, and ACT.
Coming to therapy is a big decision: sometimes we know right away what we want to focus on; other times, it takes a while to find what it is we want to discover about ourselves. I value taking the time to build a relationship with my clients that allows them to feel like they are the leaders of their own treatment. As a clinician, my goals are your goals. You set the stage in our sessions, and I am the one who helps guide you to where you need to be. I believe in building a therapeutic relationship that allows for openness, understanding, trust, and empathy; and the best and most effective clinical work happens when you feel safe.

Being human can be confusing, overwhelming and painful. Despite this predicament, I believe therapy can help shed the feeling of a constricted life and achieve an authentic and empowered sense of self. Through a collaborative and compassion-centered approach, I aim to help hold in a non-judgmental space the challenging parts of life and encourage next steps in your journey. The technique I use most often is trauma-sensitive mindfulness combined with concepts and methods from CBT, DBT and MI while applying lenses such as attachment, familial, cultural, generational and that of global systems.

My therapeutic approaches draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Psychodynamics, Gestalt Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Practices, and Cultural-Relational Therapy.
How do we feel, think and be present? It’s easier said than done. Yet, feeling, thinking, and simply being- though often uncomfortable, are fundamentally what make us human! During our sessions, we will explore what it means to feel, think, and be. I welcome you as you are, regardless of where you are in your journey. If you’re coming in with learned habits and thinking patterns that no longer serve you, we can work together to discover the possibilities of unlearning and relearning. By collaborating, we can understand what it means to develop insight into life’s difficult thoughts, feelings, relationships, and experiences.

As a therapist and yoga teacher, I believe in a holistic approach to personal growth. I have training and experience in how to use mindfulness and somatic (aka body-based or sensory) techniques to address a range of concerns. I specialize in working with anxiety, addictive behaviors, and folks who want to feel better about how they see themselves. I do often see people who have a trauma history, but whether or not we process it is entirely up to them. Ultimately, it is my intention to help clients build a better relationship with all parts of themselves including their bodies.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
