If you’re stuck in self-destructive cycles of behaviors or thoughts, unable to move on from difficult experiences in your past, or paralyzed by anxiety, I can help. Whether you’re looking to work through trauma, set boundaries with your family, change dynamics with a romantic partner, or reconnect with what gives you pleasure, I can guide you in taking that first step. As a teen coping with my parents’ messy divorce, I turned to self-harm while also journeying through my own sexual self-discovery. Therapy and safe relationships helped me feel better by speaking about my pain rather than keeping it inside or taking it out on myself.

Acknowledging a need for support is the first step in fostering change in your family, and parents and caregivers deserve just as much support as the children they care for.
Life has thrown a lot of challenges your way, and lately it hasn’t felt as easy as usual to navigate them. You and your partner recently became parents and you want to align on your vision but your parenting styles feel so different. Not to mention it’s making you reflect on your complicated relationship with your own parents. Or your child has been struggling and you're at a loss for how to support them. They have been labeled as “the problem”, and no matter how hard you try, you feel as though you have failed as a parent. What’s more, the stressors of parenting are starting to have an impact on your relationship with your partner.

As an attachment and relationship therapist - we will curiously look back and into family, culture, race, religion, sexuality, etc.
I believe that everyone has their potential already within them. Because of this, therapy is a place to discover what is possible and to provide the structure, tools, and outside perspective to more consistently bring your authentic self into your everyday. As we grow, we find that the ways we’ve seen and known ourselves no longer work for us, and the people around us change the dynamics in which we operate. Whether it is big life changes and self image issues to sexuality and relationship challenges, we have to take responsibility for our part and direct our effort to the areas where we have influence and control.

Do you lay awake worrying about your relationship, your family, money, your job, or your life in general? Feel stressed out, unable to relax? Are you easily distractible, have trouble accomplishing things, and wonder if you have ADHD? Wish you could "stop the world and get off" for while? Therapy is a good place to do just that. To help you figure out what's not working, and new ways to approach old problems. Like how to avoid having the same fight over and over with a loved one. Or maybe you just need someone to talk to, who won't judge you.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
