Finding a therapist who will understand and hold space for your unique process can be hard. I want to make that process as easy as possible. Here is some information about what I do, but please feel free to call or email me if you have any additional questions. I see a wide range of clients working through many different concerns. I specialize in trauma and grief (grief when you lose someone, the grief after life changes without your consent, grief when you realize a relationship will never be what you'd hoped, and other forms of grief.) Here, you will have the opportunity for body, mind, and spirit healing in one space, if desired.

I have extensive training in anxiety, depression, chronic pain, grief, trauma, and identity development.
I approach therapy with the understanding that many of our symptoms and struggles are normal human attempts to manage pain, loss, anxiety, and even difficult or overwhelming emotions. My goal is help you find your way through these struggles and reclaim a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling to you. I will collaborate with you and set therapy goals that feel right for you in the context of your personal history and identity, and use evidence-based treatments that have been shown to be effective for anxiety and mood management, grief, trauma, and chronic pain.

I provide teletherapy to clients in Pennsylvania and California (I am licensed in both states). I work with adults (18-65) who are struggling with trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, acute stress, substance use, and challenges with interpersonal relationships, major life transitions, coming out, gender, and queer identity development. I use EMDR therapy and client-centered, mindfulness-based, cognitive-behavioral interventions to support people in healing from traumatic experiences and unresolved grief by helping them reprocess disturbing, burdensome memories so that they become less intrusive, distracting, and painful.

I work primarily with adults who present a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, grief/bereavement, stress management, college adjustment, and life transitions.
People decide to start therapy for a variety of reasons - depression and anxiety, ending of a relationship, a major life transition or self discovery, just to name a few. Whatever your personal reasons are to begin therapy, I believe that the process of therapy along with the therapeutic relationship serve as the vehicle to help you reach your goals. Based on your unique needs, we create a therapy treatment plan together. By creating a safe and non-judgmental space, I then work with you in a collaborative manner to help you identify your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and discover how these three influence each other.

I specialize in areas of attachment, self-exploration and identity, anxiety and depression, as well as grief, loss, and trauma.
Figuring it out often feels like waiting for the world to pause so we can catch-up and the pieces finally fall together. As you well know, those pauses often are not long enough and can lack the kind of tools, insights, and support needed. We are then left asking, what else is there? I believe that these curiosities, feeling all that we do, is meant to connect us to our true self by learning to know ourselves in every way and love ourselves deeply. The journey of growth and healing involves the use of many different tools, a powerful one being the tool of therapy.

I enjoy working with people in challenging transitions, who struggle with loss or suffering, or who want to overcome a vulnerability. My style is warm and collaborative. Let's talk about how I can help you achieve growth, meaningful change, and relief from distress. Each of us has, inside, the ability to heal and transform. You can focus these inner resources to move your life forward. The good news is that it's all right there, inside you.

I specialize in mood disorders (such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder), relationship and peer issues, grief and loss and stressful life transitions.
Often people find themselves to be stuck or unhappy and they don't know how they got there. Or maybe there is a specific problem you're dealing with and you need an outside perspective and unbiased help working through it and getting back to a more comfortable and productive place. Sometimes it's helpful to just have a safe space to share what's going on inside your head. I consider therapy a natural and helpful extension of your regular daily life. My hope is that sessions with me are conversations and explorations into what you think about and what you want for yourself and your relationships.

Because you will be putting a good deal of time, money, and energy into therapy, you should choose a therapist carefully. I believe you should feel comfortable with the therapist you choose, and hopeful about the therapy process. When you feel this way, therapy is more likely to be helpful to you. I have more than 20 years helping people work through grief and loss, life transitions, relationship struggles, career indecision, anxiety and depression. In addition, I have considerable experience helping individuals struggling with issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

I also work with clients struggling with complicated grief over the loss of a pet/companion animal as these losses are sometimes hard to grieve.
I think of the therapeutic relationship as a workshop where clients can plan, tinker, experiment, test, and refine parts of themselves, their relationships, and their lives with my unwavering support. It's a place and time where we can collaborate on what might need to change, what tools are necessary for the task, and on the ways it might begin to unfold. I create and hold a safe place for clients to ponder, practice, and consider change-- especially when they struggle to maintain that space for themselves. As a trauma informed practitioner, I am able to ground and contain intense affect to help clients feel held.

I really love working with women and teens 12 and up on issues such as grief and loss, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and relational problems.
Asking for help is hard. When life gets to be overwhelming, talking about the issues can help organize your thoughts. The therapeutic relationship is the most important tool we'll use! We'll work on building trust, a sense of safety, open communication, and humor to identify how we can improve on your already existing coping skills, supports, and knowledge. I utilize an eclectic approach to best meet your needs. I believe that being kind and compassionate with yourself is the first step to healing and creating change.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
