My practice is grounded in psychodynamic and attachment theories, and incorporates elements from somatic mindfulness, creative arts therapies and DBT.
I believe that therapy is a space for us to work together in exploration, growth, and play. I value curiosity and building a trusting & collaborative relationship between therapist and client where you are treated as the expert of your own experience! I strive to support people through identifying the ways trauma manifests in their bodies, the impact of relationships and systems on their identities, and the connections between past and present. I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults around issues of identity, life transitions, trauma, anxiety, gender and sexuality, body image and relationship challenges.

The theories I use most often in my work include: CBT, DBT, MI, and ACT.
Coming to therapy is a big decision: sometimes we know right away what we want to focus on; other times, it takes a while to find what it is we want to discover about ourselves. I value taking the time to build a relationship with my clients that allows them to feel like they are the leaders of their own treatment. As a clinician, my goals are your goals. You set the stage in our sessions, and I am the one who helps guide you to where you need to be. I believe in building a therapeutic relationship that allows for openness, understanding, trust, and empathy; and the best and most effective clinical work happens when you feel safe.

My therapeutic approaches draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Psychodynamics, Gestalt Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Practices, and Cultural-Relational Therapy.
How do we feel, think and be present? It’s easier said than done. Yet, feeling, thinking, and simply being- though often uncomfortable, are fundamentally what make us human! During our sessions, we will explore what it means to feel, think, and be. I welcome you as you are, regardless of where you are in your journey. If you’re coming in with learned habits and thinking patterns that no longer serve you, we can work together to discover the possibilities of unlearning and relearning. By collaborating, we can understand what it means to develop insight into life’s difficult thoughts, feelings, relationships, and experiences.

Deciding to start therapy can be a challenging and vulnerable process. My goal as a therapist is to make each individual feel as safe and supported as possible with high levels of empathy, compassion, and genuineness. Throughout the therapy process, I value the importance of improving relationships, managing stress, and increasing the ability to identify and regulate emotions. In sessions, I emphasis the importance of processing core beliefs we hold towards ourself and the world, practicing daily mindfulness, and learning skills to effectively regulate our emotions. I also provide supervision for pre-licensed clinicians!

In addition to CBT, I incorporate mindfulness, MI, DBT, and person-centered approaches.
All people experience hardships that can put them in a rut or lead to burnout. Whatever stressor you may be facing, my goal is to use a trauma-informed, holistic lens to work with you to better understand and accept your emotions, introduce new perspectives, and create steps toward change using your unique strengths. One of the most essential components of therapy is ensuring that you feel safe and comfortable to open up about your innermost feelings and beliefs. I strive to make you feel accepted and empowered to express your needs and create tailored goals in treatment using a collaborative approach.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
