I provide therapy for adolescents and adults with all anxiety disorders using mindfulness based cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Specifically, I work with people who have obsessive-compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic with or without agoraphobia, and specific fears such as driving, flying, getting needles, you name it. I integrate mindfulness training with CBT because exposure to what is feared can feel overwhelming without mindfulness training or some other way of weathering extreme fear.

Feeling stuck in life? Maybe it's time to get some help. Do you find yourself getting sad or angry at confusing moments in your life? Do others find you to be "primarily angry," "often sad," or in some other way dominated by one particular feeling? Expressing and/or making sense of negative emotions is sometimes challenging. I help people examine, understand, and process their feelings so that they can be more productive and self-secure. I am also particularly skilled in helping people with life and career transition problems.

Psychotherapy is a powerful process through which we can learn about the ways we attempt to manage difficult circumstances, feelings, and conflicts through the lens of our experiences and relationships both past and present. Therapy is an opportunity for individuals to develop their own understanding of how they came to be who they are- and why. This often provides valuable information about how we might meet present day challenges across the broad demands of everyday life. Therapy can be very effective for most people, and I make every effort to create a welcoming and collaborative environment.

On the outside, you may look as if you have it all together, but on the inside, you may struggle with feelings of self-doubt, shame, and loneliness. I specialize in empowering teenage girls and women to be who they are and discover and accept their intrinsic value. Grounded in a climate of warmth and acceptance, clients explore feelings and identify thoughts and patterns that may be preventing them from getting what they want. I believe therapy works best as a creative partnership where clients discover their own wisdom, gain a sense of personal power and find a purposeful direction.

I specialize in relationships (including post-relationship issues) process addictions, sexual trauma, family and couples counseling.
I come alongside my clients as I bear witness to their pain, struggles, healing and growth. I am always amazed at the resiliency and strength I see in people. What I appreciate about counseling is that it is both a SCIENCE and an ART. We know of interventions and strategies that work well and the 'art' shows up in how language, images and personalized goals are used.

With a focus on trauma and its symptoms (anxiety & depression) I draw on evidence-based practices including Prolonged Exposure to assist in processing past traumatic experiences.
As a clinician, my therapeutic approach is founded on a holistic perspective that recognizes the profound impact of trauma on individuals and couples. I believe that the power of therapy comes from not only the relationship between therapist and client but also the client's willingness to show up for themselves authentically. I am dedicated to creating a safe and empathetic space where clients feel seen, validated and supported in their healing journey. In working with individuals and couples, my goal is to tailor interventions to the unique needs and experiences of each client.

I am trained in EMDR therapy, which is a neurologically-based treatment approach that resolves unprocessed traumatic memories by facilitating the brain’s natural capacity for healing.
An empathic therapeutic relationship offers a safe and confidential space to sort through confusing thoughts, explore painful emotions, and process acute and complex trauma. By looking thoughtfully at your earliest relationships and formative experiences, we will seek to understand how you currently interact with others and cope with life’s difficulties. The goal of our work together will be to foster self-awareness and build your capacity to live a life of curiosity, creativity, vitality, and connection. It is my hope to offer the process of healing as a transformative experience of feeling truly known.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
