I use alot of humor in my sessions, as laughing directly short-circuits negative emotional pathways. My ideal client is one who seeks to better themselves and learn new ways of interacting with the world. I work well with people who enjoy having deep conversations and also working on practical issues. I tend to work best with individuals with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and dealing with trauma. You should choose me if you are seeking an approachable, grounded and not too fluffy therapist.

I enjoy working with teens and young adults with low self esteem who are struggling to find themselves and gain independence.
Relationships are a big part of our lives. Whether it be with a parent, friend or a significant other, managing them can be difficult. My training as a couple and family therapist has prepared me to help my clients resolve interpersonal issues and form loving and rewarding relationships.

Entering therapy is an act of self care that takes courage. It is an opportunity to take pause and honor who we are and how we got here. My approach is to encourage clients to dig deep into what it means to be happy, content, and fulfilled. This process is as much about the questions as it is the answers. I work collaboratively with clients to better understand themselves and their relationships, build insight and distress tolerance, and to develop a "toolbox" to better communicate and relate with their loved ones. Combined, this results in a refined awareness of self and a deeper permission to feel, change, and grow.

My clinical philosophy can be captured by the following words… It’s not just in your head, it’s in your brain. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that much of the ongoing emotional and psychological distress we carry throughout life is rooted in traumatic underpinnings, which directly affects the central nervous system. In helping clients understand the neurological reasons behind their distress, and integrating techniques to support rewiring for well-being, individuals become more empowered and confident to creatively assume control for how they want to live their lives.

I am dedicated to helping individuals break loose from feeling stuck in bad habits, past memories, or unhealthy relationships. If you feel like you just can't measure up to the version of yourself that you know you can be, I would like to listen. Once you've felt heard, we can figure out how to get you unstuck from your current situation. No one escapes this world without getting hurt but that should not stop you from making a life worth living for yourself. I create sessions that are totally about you and our goals will come from what you want to see change in your life.

Do you feel like your emotions get the best of you? Do you wonder why things get under your skin and pull you into a spiral, even if part of you knows it's not rational? Do you live your life trying to avoid anxiety or sadness? Does self-criticism or feelings of worthlessness keep you stuck feeling like you're not who you'd like to be? Maybe you want to finally stop trying to run from your feelings and want to learn how to express them. Maybe your comfort zone has become stifling and you're ready to be break free.

My goal is to help clients grow and develop tools to move through the challenges they encounter. I work to create a safe place for clients to learn alternative ways to manage the stressors and conflicts in life that lead to anxiety, depression, PTSD, helplessness and hopelessness. I have been greatly honored to journey with individuals, couples and families as they navigate the challenges they face, make sense of their lives and feel better. I am continually amazed by the human spirit and each person’s ability to overcome adversity, even horrendous trauma.

Most days your body feels like it is on high alert, waiting for something bad to happen. You have feelings of danger panic or dread, and it is making it more and more difficult to get through your day. Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time, you tell yourself, but this nervousness and tension is starting to interfere in your day to day activities- work, family, friends and fun. You can’t concentrate and feel like you overthink everything. A restful night’s sleep seems to be a thing of the past, and you are worried it is impacting your physical health. As your irritability increases, you realize this is no way to live.

My practice is dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families. Entering therapy is a significant decision and making this decision comes from a place of strength. I have an appreciation for this strength, and consider it an important part of the therapy process. Making personal changes can be challenging. The aim of therapy is to help people make changes within their thoughts, feelings, and relationships that lead to being their most authentic self. I consider myself as an invited guest into the client's life and it is an honor to be a part of the process.

Welcome! It takes courage to ask for help and support and so if you are here now, I congratulate you for taking this first big step. The idea of therapy can be scary but if you think of it as a safe place to share life's challenges and receive support then it will hopefully take any fear and trepidation away. My whole intention and goal are to offer support so we can work through any conflcts together and move toward more inner peace. Acting is the key to moving forward. Take that first step and make that call! I look forward to hearing from you.

I am rooted in an approach that predominantly pulls from existential-humanistic and psychodynamic psychologies. I believe that the client is the expert of their experience, and that their experience within the present can be connected to their experience of the past – creating and maintaining particular dynamics between the self and others. I also use the therapeutic relationship to inform the work – providing for corrective emotional experiences and empowering my clients to strive for the embodiment of an authentic self.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
