With training in psychodynamic and relational therapy approaches, I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in the effectiveness of treatment.
“Some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm.” We don't often anticipate the ways that life will challenge us--or the things we may learn as a result. Whether you are seeking help in the midst of calm or storm, sharing your concerns with a psychologist can be an important step toward living a full and healthy life.

Hello! My name is Gregg and I help people through some of the tough times in their lives. I believe that we adjust to new experiences using the tools we already possess and a desire to thrive in new surroundings, but sometimes this striving to survive can cause us emotional and behavioral difficulties. I provide supportive guidance through these situations using tools from cognitive-behavioral therapy, narrative, and existential therapies, from the psychodynamic approach.

With an overarching psychodynamic approach, I utilize evidenced-based trauma interventions throughout the course of care.
Therapy is about establishing re-connection. Re-connection to others (friends, family, partners, etc) of course, but primarily re-connection to Self...our feelings, our thoughts, our beliefs, and a sense of safety in our bodies. If you struggle with depression, anxiety, dissociation, substance abuse, self-harming, or other self-sabotaging behaviors you just may be trying your best to survive intolerable circumstances as you move through this world. Without a safe connection to Self, relationships to others are inevitably disrupted.

I am theologically evangelical and integrate issues of spiritual formation using an interpersonal/psychodynamic approach.
I have been a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania since 2003, and practicing in the Bucks County area as a Christian therapist since 1991. I have experience dealing with a wide range of issues and working with children, adolescents, and adults, in addition to teaching at the graduate level. I get tremendous joy from seeing people take their troubling symptoms, the panic attacks, the depressed mood, the self-defeating patterns of relating, and use them to build the self-understanding and character strength necessary to boldly love and experience the kind of intimacy in relationships they never thought possible.

My style is integrative: my main approach-psychodynamic, I also utilize techniques from various approaches, such as TF-CBT, Gestalt, CBT, and mindfulness.
I believe that in order to change anything, we first need to understand and accept it. This is done through talking. I bring an empathetic, worldly, and multidisciplinary approach to help you gain a deeper understanding of who you are and what you want. We all repeat the same patterns through our lives that sometimes prevent us from happiness.Through therapy, we can start to observe those patterns, and then decide how we want to change them.

I use my training in Psychodynamic, Cognitive- Behavioral, Systems and Interpersonal Psychotherapies, to help each patient feel better about herself and feel more empowered.
I have been treating women for over 25 years who are experiencing feelings of depression and/or anxiety that sometimes coincide with lifestyle transitions, such as pregnancy, new motherhood, postpartum depression, miscarriage, infertility, menopause, relationship issues, divorce, PMS or returning to the work force. I work as a partnership in helping each woman to resolve issues in her life, in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. I feel that it's very important that your voice be heard. I can help you to find the relief that you deserve. I can help you feel like your "old self" again.

I utilize psychodynamic, family systems, attachment-based, cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness approaches.
Making sense of your anxieties, fears or depression can feel overwhelming. We all have the need to be connected and challenged so that we can grow into our best self. I believe that therapy should be hard but rewarding work that can be translated into actionable behavior outside of treatment. The cornerstone of making change is finding a therapist who promotes a sense of safety, compassion and respect to allow your true self to emerge and thrive. I have over 15 years of clinical practice experience in New York City and Philadelphia and value working with diverse individuals and families.

I am open to working with clients from all walks of life, those who know what their goals are, and those who are uncertain about what they expect from therapy. My professional and lived experience helps me relate to clients who have difficulties adjusting to changes in life, as well as older adults, caregivers, and people of all ages struggling with family issues. A psychodynamic approach helps clients feel listened to and encouraged to develop their story, gain insight and self-awareness, & notice the connection between past events and current difficulties.

The psychodynamic approach helps me connect the client's current depression and anxiety to their childhood and parents' behaviors.
Have you had a car accident and lost everything, including your career and physical health? Did you have to undergo multiple surgeries to fix your body because of the accident? Are you becoming more and more depressed and easily angry at home? Does your family think you need some help? Have you struggled with a lot of anxiety & OCD since you were young? Do you want to make changes to yourself so your husband and daughters can love again? I use a person-centered approach to build rapport with clients. I provide psychoeducation about what depression & anxiety are and how therapy works to help reduce the unknown feelings.

I utilize a psychodynamic and relational approach to therapy, greatly valuing the therapeutic relationship built together as an important place for understanding to begin and healing to occur. I aim to provide a supportive space to build a deeper personal understanding of yourself and exploring how early life experiences and relationships support or bring obstacles to present day life. Together, we can work to rediscover the value in all of the unique parts of yourself, and gain the capacity to experience, feel, and safely regulate difficult emotions, working towards living a more authentic and vibrant life.

I work from a relational, psychodynamic, family-systems, trauma-informed, and neurobiological perspective.
My passion is working with children, teenagers, young adults, couples and families to process trauma and difficult experiences so they can experience growth and healing within themselves and their relationships. Through my work with individuals and family's I have learned the deep importance of understanding "what has happened" to people rather than viewing people through the lens of "what is wrong with people".

Sometimes life throws us curve balls, and sometimes life feels like one big curve ball. No matter what the situation or circumstances may be, having a trusted person to listen and validate, with unconditional positive regard, can bring comfort, and ultimately cure. I work particularly well with individuals who may have had previous experience with therapy that felt too “cookie cutter”. I do not presume that there is a one formula approach that fits all, and I will validate your unique life experience throughout our work together. Above all, I provide therapy of depth, insight and focus on relationships.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
