Our specialty areas are depression and anxiety, relationship problems, addictions, codependency, and identity development.
We are licensed psychotherapists who have been practicing for over 30 years. Our therapeutic work is based in the idea that quality of life is largely dependent upon a feeling of belonging or a sense of connectedness to others. Sometimes though, we feel unwanted, lacking value and self-worth. We can be profoundly uncertain of our own potential or where we stand in our relationships with others. We all grapple with stress, self-doubt and the challenges of finding meaning, purpose, and solving our ultimate existential concerns - "Who am I," and "Where am I headed?"

I address all issues from the perspective of a person's environment. We all exist in the context of a family, a community and a culture. In therapy we often find that there is nothing wrong with us, depression, anxiety, etc., are not innate dysfunctions but rather result from conflict that arises in our environment. I like to help individuals, couples and families learn about these environments to better navigate them as well as learn about themselves and what it means to be who they are in the context of their environment.

The majority of my clients experience anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, sexuality, or gender identity issues.
I aim to create a safe and welcoming environment where my clients can feel comfortable sharing their life stressors and experiences. My goal is to meet my client where they are, as every person and their experiences are different and should be treated as such. I work to provide a collaborative approach to treatment with my clients by developing goals that address their needs and what they hope to achieve in therapy.

I have worked with a number of different populations from children to adults, individuals to couples with a specific focus on substance issues, anger management, depression, anxiety and daily life challenges.
With over twenty-five years of experience, I believe that the issues we face can be dealt with by choosing how we view them. I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and rational living therapy to help clients determine what they see as issues and how they want to manage them. I focus on helping clients minimize or eliminate problem behaviors and thoughts and increase positive coping skills, thinking skills and day to day management skills. I am a straight forward, conversational therapist with a dry sense of humor. My motivation is your improvement and your release from the areas where you are stuck.

As a parent, seeing your child grapple with confidence, anxiety, sadness, or past hurts is heart-wrenching. Instead of seeking your support, it seems like they're pushing you away more & more. They crave understanding, support, & strategies to navigate life's big things, yet voicing these needs may feel impossible to them. They want to feel heard, empowered, & capable of overcoming hurdles, yearning to return to a sense of "normalcy". But their brains don't work like ours do & it's so hard to figure out how to help them. all of your advice & guidance is shot back at you & you can then start feeling some pretty big things of your own

Feeling stuck in a constant state of stress & anxiety, heart pounding, stomach clenching, and with a fear that at any moment you could lose control of some aspect of your life. Struggling with sleep, never feeling rested, mood on edge and snapping at those you love. The pain of not understanding what you are feeling & not being able to explain it to others increases feelings of loneliness. Looking for light in the darkness, the ability to walk in a room and not worry about what others are doing, to be able to close your eyes and get a truly restful night sleep, and to feel like you can fully breathe, Counseling can help.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
