OTHER SERVICES: Addiction Awareness Education for job related substance abuse problems - Return to Work.
It's hard to get clean and sober, and staying clean and sober tends to bring out issues that also can be quite difficult. I provide private, confidential treatment for the chemically dependent. Since 1994 I have helped hundreds of men and women through counseling to address their alcoholism, drug addiction and related issues. I provide counsel, support and coaching for those in early recovery. I also counsel those in sustained recovery who are ready to work on recovery related life issues.

Some people have had a negative experience with substance abuse treatment, as they have felt that the treatment approach or the definition of "addict" did not apply to their particular problem.
I believe that therapy can result in meaningful and long lasting changes, as long as an individual is provided with a trusting, supportive, and non-judgmental environment that will allow one to identify, discuss, and resolve one's current difficulties or problems. My clients tell me that they find it very easy to talk to me about difficult and sensitive matters, and that they feel calm and comfortable in my presence. We will work together to identify stressors and/or relationships that are contributing to your symptoms, and develop coping strategies to help you manage these problems more effectively.

I believe that the populations I am most skilled in treating are those who are experiencing life adjustments and transitions in which they would benefit from support and guidance while navigating these circumstances. A majority of the population I treat additionally report anxious and/or depressive symptoms. I would consider myself relatable and down to earth and am most concerned about my client's comfortability within the treatment process. I am also passionate and experienced with exploring one's relationship with substances.

I am currently building a thriving practice of couples and families that are seeking relief and understanding, and the work I am doing is centered around finding belonging and safety in the spaces and relationships we occupy. The couples I work with are navigating life transitions, evaluating the state of and investment in their relationship, or are considering moving toward mutual separation and transition to a co-parenting relationship. With families my work has involved improving communication within families separated by physical distance, generational healing, and increasing connection following loss.

I am a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of complex trauma and PTSD. I believe in creating a relatable and safe space to work through the toughest parts of our past. While some trauma is overt, such as PTSD, other traumas can be hidden behind depression or anxiety. Emotional traumas can even arise from being raised by parents or guardians with personality disorders. I have over 10 years of experience using EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic interventions to address various forms of trauma.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
