I became a counselor because I know how hard day to day life can be for those of us with Neurodivergent traits, particularly given these uncertain times. I firmly believe that no one should have to process these existential realities alone. With 6 years of experience, I work with both teens, and adults struggling with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, difficult family dynamics, and Complex Trauma (CPTSD), I utilize a Humanistic approach, with aspects of CBT, Existential Theory, and The Reflective Process to aid you in differentiating your true-self from who you’ve always been told you are, or should be.

I believe everyone has the need to be seen and heard- everyone has a story to tell. I can support you with finding and using your voice. Maybe you are questioning past or present decisions or have “unfinished business.” Feeling overwhelmed with sadness due to a death or loss of a relationship, pet, job, or health and feeling stuck and alone. Feeling anxious because of excessive worry- feeling frozen in fear. Maybe you realize the ways you try to cope no longer serve you. Together we can collaborate, identify ways for you to self-support and develop a plan to mobilize so that you can begin healing and live a more fulfilling life.

Anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, identity concerns, grief/loss, chronic illness, and women's issues are a sampling of concerns I find meaning in helping clients navigate.
Many find psychotherapy useful as a space to explore stressors and difficulties, learn new ways to cope with hardships, and ultimately make changes to enhance quality of life. I remain focused on providing support to each client and incorporate techniques aimed to alleviate distress, foster resilience, and help one move closer to achieving their goals. I utilize an integrative approach including person-centered, supportive, CBT, and/or psychodynamic techniques, always tailoring my style to meet each client's unique needs.

Recovering from an eating disorder and/or severe trauma can frequently be difficult. My broad training and extensive experience enables me to work with patients in a variety of ways including traditional therapeutic approaches, the incorporation of art therapy as a component of treatment, and the use of EMDR. I work with each individual patient to determine the type of approach that best matches her personality and therapeutic needs. I have been one of the first psychotherapists to make use of expressive arts and EMDR in the treatment of eating disorders.

The journey to parenthood can bring up many different emotions; fear, uncertainty, unresolved pasts, self-doubt, or grief, to name a few. Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
