I utilize EMDR and resourcing skills to help individuals work through trauma and fixed-states.
Do you feel like your isolated, stuck, out-of-control, depressed, anxious, having difficulty relating to others, drinking/using substances too much, or just lacking a sense of direction/purpose? Do you get the sense that the world is against you or that whatever you do it’s not enough? For 20 years, I have honed my style to support personal growth by helping individuals honor/understand his/her/their style as necessary for survival, while promoting development of newer/adaptive styles that enable meaningful relationships, enhanced self-confidence, meet challenges of aging, life-transitions, grief/loss, trauma, and anger management.

It can be difficult to ask for help, but particularly when you're struggling to define the problem itself. As time passes, we may wonder about our upbringing, or consider whether our consistent struggles might be rooted in definable conditions, rather than being evidence of character flaws. With 6 years of experience, I work with both teens, and adults who are struggling with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, and Intergenerational/Complex Trauma (C PTSD). I utilize a Humanistic approach, CBT, Existential Theory, and The Reflective Process to support you on the path to reaching your personal growth goals.

“It’s always best to believe in one’s self, but a little help from others can be a great blessing!” I view each person as the main character in their book of life. Each book contains stories of joy, sadness, exploration, struggle, and most importantly: HOPE. My goal to assist in exploring these stories, whether you encounter depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, intersectional struggles, or self-esteem issues. I am especially sensitive to those impacted by LGBTQ issues, religious minorities, activists, uniformed public servants, and those experiencing depression.

I believe everyone has the need to be seen and heard- everyone has a story to tell. I can support you with finding and using your voice. Maybe you are questioning past or present decisions or have “unfinished business.” Feeling overwhelmed with sadness due to a death or loss of a relationship, pet, job, or health and feeling stuck and alone. Feeling anxious because of excessive worry- feeling frozen in fear. Maybe you realize the ways you try to cope no longer serve you. Together we can collaborate, identify ways for you to self-support and develop a plan to mobilize so that you can begin healing and live a more fulfilling life.

Kionna has observed that over time, trauma impacts both the mind and body. She strongly believes that addressing the healing of both aspects simultaneously leads to lasting recovery. While many clients intellectually grasp their truth, the emotional aspect often hinders complete release and healing from past events. This can occasionally lead to feelings of being trapped and uncertain. Her main goal is teaching clients about the central nervous system and how it responds to trauma. By understanding how trauma impacts the mind and body, Kionna empowers her clients to work towards holistic healing.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
