The decision to seek help from a mental health professional is not an easy one. If you've never been in therapy before, you likely have no idea what to expect, and you may worry that you'll be judged, criticized, or labeled as "crazy." If you have been to therapy before, the thought of "starting all over" with someone new can also be overwhelming, especially if your previous experiences haven't been very helpful. Whether you're a therapy veteran or a newbie, I believe I can help.

Anxiety, grief, anger, love - Let’s talk about it. Many of us feel exhausted trying to manage, reason with, numb, or shame how me feel. And if we have a partner, we feel overwhelmed trying to understand ourselves AND someone else. This leads to communication flops and a loss of intimacy. Rather than seeing you as “one messed up mind,” I see you as having many different parts. For both individuals and couples, I help you find peace by getting to know all those parts. In practice this looks like a combination of practical, everyday changes an deep inner work.

It’s unsettling to be in the world as it is, especially for queer folks. It’s time to rise up, face our fears, and heal and nurture ourselves. I work exclusively with those in this beautiful, sparkly, rainbow-hued community to help with transitions and troubles, navigate life's journey, and thrive. I give feedback and use my life experiences to connect, to view situations in new ways, clarify ideas, and invite them to try new things.

Although we cannot change our past, we can acknowledge its impact and change how we view it and ourselves. While working with clients, I encourage expression to gain self-awareness and to reshape narratives. Expression is essential in everyday life, especially when working through difficult times, such as grief and trauma. I practice therapy with a person-centered, trauma-informed, strength based approach to meet clients where they are and to help them make changes to start the healing process. As an Art Therapist, I have the ability to bring artmaking into the therapy session and to help facilitate the healing process.

We are often told to “just get over it”. Although often well-intentioned, this saying is neither helpful or realistic. It is my firm belief that we don’t “get over” things, but we make meaning and learn to live with our experiences. As a certified EMDR therapist, I take pride in helping people do just that. Trauma impacts us all in unique ways and EMDR can help people achieve a variety of their personal goals related to healing, growth, and becoming “unstuck” from past experiences. From minor to major traumas, I am committed to helping you overcome your past and look forward to your future without fear and distress.

I am a feminist therapist, and my approach is insight, depth, and systems oriented.
I'm passionate about working with folks of marginalized identities who seek a therapist with similar lived experience. My main areas of interest include gender identity, disability/illness, neuroemergence, perfectionism, dissociation, trauma, and sexuality and relationships (including non-monogamy, kink, and sex work). I enjoy supporting other therapists, caregivers, and academics/scholars. I'm also invested in serving other folks living with Septad Super Syndrome. Feminist Therapists
How does feminist therapy work?
Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.
What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?
Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.
How long does feminist therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
Does feminist therapy work?
As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
