ERP is the gold standard therapy for all forms of OCD and relies on a gradual exposure hierarchy.
Hi! I’m Mary. I have advanced post-graduate training in multiple therapy modalities including Internal Family Systems (IFS Level 1), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and will recommend the modality that is best suited to your needs (more on each below). Regardless of modality, I generally incorporate neurobiology education into our work so you can better understand what your brain and body are doing and why.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with years of experience in providing evidence-based therapy focusing on training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for obsessive compulsive disorder ( OCD), and organizational skills training for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
My approach with my clients is flexibly implementing evidence-based therapeutic techniques (i.e., approaches that have been scientifically proven for decades to be successful). I believe that effective therapy needs to help build skills such as understanding and regulating emotions, relaxation strategies, understanding and managing thought patterns and beliefs, communication and social skills, etc. These skills are vital in addressing anxiety and depression.

Through evidence-based therapy, you can shift your thoughts, find more effective and adaptive behaviors, and live a healthy and fulfilling life. It’s possible - I promise. By finding this page, you took the first, and often one of the hardest steps- getting started. I am so happy you are here.

I completely understand the mental and physical toll eating disorders and OCD take, both from personal and professional experience.
My clients are dedicated athletes grappling with eating disorders or OCD, facing the dual challenges of their mental health and a desire to perform at their peak. They are often overwhelmed by the demands of their sport, which can blur the lines between passion and harmful habits. Their primary goal is to reclaim their lives and their love for their sport, seeking not just recovery, but transformation—an opportunity to realign their beliefs and values towards a healthier, more balanced existence. They crave empowerment, resilience, and the ability to thrive both in their athletic pursuits and personal lives.

Many of the people I help struggle with traumatic memories, obsessive and disturbing thoughts and chronic anxiety and depression.
Within each one of us is an inner child that holds the many hurts of our life. To survive this world, we hide the child away, building strong brick walls, preventing the child from emerging. Sometimes we use our “busyness” to ignore the cries of the child behind the barricades. Or we turn to anger, addiction and numbness to drown out the deafening cries. In our moments of brokenness, we stop and wonder, “Is this how I will have to live the rest of my life?” Trauma touches us all in different ways. The role of a therapist is to guide you through the pain and hurt so you can live a life of intention, meaning and inner peace.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
