In today’s complex world, people often experience stress at work, at home and in relationships. When this becomes persistent, excessive, or is routinely triggered by everyday situations, it becomes disruptive to leading a healthy, well-rounded, and fulfilling life. The great news is that with professional guidance and support, one can reengage with the world, develop a healthy work life balance, have good relationships with family and friends and move towards living a fulfilling life. Seeking help is the first step. A step that only you can take.

I understand how that feels and I am here to offer compassionate, non-judgmental, and confidential support to help you manage life challenges. With a background in K-12 school counseling, I also understand the unique challenges children and educators experience in schools.

You deserve to have a compassionate person help you “work through” all of your feelings! I am a very warm therapist who believes that humor and spirituality have a place in the therapy room.
Does this describe you? You're a people pleaser, wanting to make everyone happy but yourself. You feel the pain of break-ups and grief very intensely. You are fiercely independent and hate taking help from others. Being placed for adoption can reverberate through all aspects of your life. I help clients grieving the losses associated with adoption; transracial adoptees dealing with identity issues; and adoptees working through all of the complex emotions related to search and reunion. As an adoptee myself, I "get it". I also work with the other sides of the adoption triad: birthparents and adoptive parents.

I believe that spirituality plays a signficant role in resolving individual and interpersonal problems.
I have many years experience helping people who have anxiety, depression, addictions, compulsive behavior disorders (food, sex, gambling) and all kinds of relational challenges. I call myself a Wholistic Existential Psychologist, indicating that I work from a Depth Psychology perspective that emphasizes each person's unique life and the interaction of mind, body and spirit in finding balance and personal integration. I believe that a healing relationship is at the core of successful psychotherapy. I also believe that Psychotherapy is a process of completing unfinished business and rewriting negative personal narratives into more positive life stories.

Health and healing are journeys. We are always honored when clients ask us along on their journey towards recovery from the trauma or devastation robbing them of the ability to trust themselves or others. If you seek improvements, in any area of your life, let's work together to identify your passions and possibilities, map and monitor your progress, and manage the dynamics that keep you stuck. You, too, can heal from trauma and addictions, manage difficult relationships (see our website for approach to couples & pre-marital counseling), surmount career set-backs & improve your self-esteem with insight and guidance.

As a Jungian analyst, my approach focuses on one's unlived life as expressed continually through dreams, fantasies and other symbolic material. By actively engaging this material and understanding its symbolic message, as well as demonstrating its relevance for life lived now, suffering can be dramatically alleviated and a more meaningful, more balanced, and spiritually satisfying life becomes possible. Many consult me specifically for my Jungian orientation but many come also who are not familiar with this approach but who are referred for psychotherapy and profit from it because of its focus on healing and transformation.

If you're struggling with a lack of fulfillment, pervasive feelings of anxiety, depression, sadness, or guilt, you may be a good candidate for therapy. Reaching out for help can be daunting, especially if you've been conditioned not to admit difficulty or hardship (as most of us have!).

Life is a journey, and you are struggling to find your way. Together, we can help you get back on track. Perhaps you have found that you got knocked off the comfortable path you once knew. While you thought you were headed toward or maybe reached a certain destination, everything is now different and you aren't sure in which direction to head. Together we can work to reorient you and open up to possibilities you may never even imagined existed. Change, be it for the good or not, is often challenging to maneuver on our own. Psychotherapy can help.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
