I work with individuals at all stages of life struggling with anxiety, OCD, and related challenges. Anxiety comes in many “flavors” and looks different on everyone. As a former teacher, I am especially passionate about working with children and adolescents. Parents often report feeling heartbroken and frustrated as they try to figure out ways to help their child. I work with parents to strengthen their relationship with their child while also going beyond temporary fixes to address core issues. I also have a special interest in working with young adults struggling with stress and anxiety.

I specialize in treating adults and young adults, with a treatment approach that begins with building a safe, caring and trusting therapeutic environment. This facilitates better understanding of self, relationships, and behaviors, and leads to insight into areas of challenge that can be limiting and frustrating. While insight is important, so are “tools” for managing difficult emotions such as anxiety, guilt, and sadness. My goal is to empower patients to recognize how to incorporate their learnings from therapy into day-to-day functioning and long-lasting change.

Everyone deserves to live their life authentically and fully. Many of us are hindered by our past experiences and trauma. The shadow of trauma and pain may follow our daily lives and keep us from reaching our goals and deepening our relationships. Trauma therapy can be the course-correction needed to jump start your life. My passion is helping my clients sort through those experiences to reach their internal joy, peace and authenticity.

I believe grief is a highly personal experience and is often not a linear process. To undergo the process alone can feel very isolating and unprocessed grief can hold us back from living. The dominant American culture often does not allow much space or permission to grieve. It often feels like nobody understands your loss. Not even your partner really understands, because they’re grieving in their own way. It hurts, possibly more than anything you have ever experienced. Life doesn’t seem fair right now and it’s hard to imagine moving forward.

Therapy is learning about yourself and understanding what your triggers are, where they came from and how to best manage them. It's also about learning strategies that will help you cope with stressors specific to what is going on in your life. Whether you are looking for guidance with anxiety or depression, support in maintaining and managing a difficult relationship, tools to better manage your emotions, help with grieving a loss, confronting a fear or gaining insight, self awareness and confidence, you've found the right place and the results can be life changing.

You who are highly sensitive and feel a lot, welcome! You'll explore more deeply with me than in traditional talk therapy. You’ve likely tried psychotherapy before but have noticed that the work has either gone nowhere or taken you only so far, or you felt misunderstood. With an uncanny and intuitive ability to really “get” people from many walks of life, I will invite you to go beneath your thoughts, connect with your body and emotions, and gently access the root of your emotional discomfort and hurts to facilitate noticeable shifts with each session.

I am a compassionate clinical social worker who believes in the ability of human beings to change their lives and behaviors. My biggest strength is in creating a safe environment where my clients feel comfortable revealing their deepest feelings and fears without judgement. I see the role of the therapist as being a facilitator; helping clients to explore their concerns or symptoms in order to gain insight into their lives and relationships.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
