An ideal client for me is someone who has difficulty managing their emotions, engages in frequent negative thinking, and has trouble communicating their needs with family and friends. They want to decrease their anxious or depressive behaviors but have little knowledge of how to begin regulating their emotions.

Every individual is different, It is not easy to function with debilitating depression, anxiety or any behavioral health diagnosis. Just as one needs help and support with a medical diagnosis, we all need support with behavioral health diagnoses. I am here to offer support in a therapeutic, positive and holistic environment. To meet you where you are. To provide a judgement free zone. I use CBT techniques along with other interventions and tools that I have mastered over the years to meet the person where they are. Often taking the first step is the hardest part, but know that you are stronger just by being here and seeking help.

We all have a vision of what we’d like life to look like. When life challenges this vision, heartache prevails. Seeing a loved one pregnant or observing a gleaming parent is not as innocent and joyful when you experience reproductive challenges, child loss, or postpartum struggles. The joy of an accomplished career might be tarnished by burnout or reflecting on what you had to sacrifice to get there. Receiving a diagnosis may shatter plans and your sense of self. Internal barriers or external circumstances may cause you to feel incomplete, directionless, and we often grieve what may have been, or miss what we once had.

As a parent of two children, I understand the importance of maternal mental health and I enjoy supporting women through the process of conception, pregnancy, childbirth and parenting.
Whether you are getting ready to be a first time parent or have five kids, motherhood is not easy and getting support is essential. Stress can start from the time you first try to conceive and continue all throughout your parenting journey.

I specialize in working with couples who are grappling with profound challenges, such as trauma, infidelity, postpartum, or the unique stressors faced by high-achieving couples.
You're probably wondering how you got here. When your relationship started things seemed so good - but arguments, let downs, stress, and maybe just a gradual drifting apart has changed the relationship into something you no longer recognize. You want to feel more connected and confident in your relationship and you need straightforward support in the midst of complicated situation to help you do that. I have worked with hundreds of couples and using research backed message, a direct approach, and a touch of humor I can help you figure out what to do next, together.

I also have experience working with perinatal health and postpartum issues and have training from the Postpartum Support International (PSI).
Taking the time and energy to reflect and change is difficult, and it is a privilege for me to part of that process with you! I believe that everyone deserves and is able to achieve peace within themselves, with their bodies, and with their relationship with food. This means no more dieting. No more hatred towards your body. And no more "good and bad" foods. Body acceptance and eating intuitively without shame is possible. While my approach is eclectic and based on your needs and goals, it is always relational, person-centered, and goal oriented in an effort for you to feel better...with some humor mixed in as well!

I work with adults and specialize in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders in women.
It's hard to ask for help, so you have taken a really good first step in finding help and feeling better. When it's the right fit, therapy can be a wonderful part of your life and can lead to feeling more grounded, confident and empowered. I am grateful to be in this work. It is a privilege to hear the stories of my clients and be a part of their journey.

Maybe you're a new parent, wondering why you're not enjoying this more. Or you've experienced a pregnancy or infant loss, and need support in processing your experience. You might have had a traumatic birth, or received a fetal diagnosis that leaves you feeling stuck...unsure of how to move forward. Does what happened leave you with spiraling thoughts, and everything feels like chaos?

As a perinatal therapist, with additional training and experience in supporting sexual and relationship challenges, I focus on the ways pregnancy, birth, and parenthood can impact sexual identity, function, and relationship.
Change is rarely easy. Whether you are changing jobs, changing relationship status, transitioning into parenthood, changing your identity, or facing some other big life transition, you do not have to do it alone. Often change comes with anxiety or even depression; sometimes we pursue change because of trauma or can be traumatized by the process; having someone to listen, witness, and support your growth may make the difference between surviving and thriving through the journey of change.

Here are some examples of challenges we can work on together: improving communication skills, conflict resolution, blending families, becoming a grandparent, financial stress, coping with loss in the family, infertility, adoption, cultural/generational differences, postpartum depression, children’s behavior issues, and sexual/gender identity exploration.
Relationships can be the greatest source of joy in people’s lives, but they also have the potential to cause us the most pain. The complex dynamics between romantic partners, parents and children, siblings, friends, and even colleagues can be incredibly challenging to navigate. I can help you to reclaim the joy in your relationships and learn how to nurture them to become even stronger. Your personal experiences have led you to develop the relationship patterns you have today, but I believe it is never too late to break unsatisfying cycles and create new, healthier ways of relating to the people you care about.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
