Symptoms that can impact the way you function include pain, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, attention problems, brain fog, fatigue, insomnia, body image concerns, & memories that negatively affect your approach to life.
You deserve a life that’s satisfying & enjoyable. I teach adults with persistent symptoms how to function at their best so they finally start feeling like themselves again. My practice offers two types of services: Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT tapping) & occupational therapy (OT). These are NOT traditional talk therapy or counseling services. EFT tapping is a mind-body method that helps change the way your nervous system responds to distressing thoughts, feelings, or body sensations. Using EFT, I help you change the way difficult memories & emotions affect how you think, act, or behave during the course of your day.

Trying to find the right therapist is challenging. I compare it to finding comfortable jeans or shoes. Its hard to find the right "fit." When life is frustrating and overwhelming, reaching out for help and not finding a person that is understanding and empathic, can feel discouraging. Making changes to your life when you're feeling anxious, alone and depression is also difficult. My clients come to my office with varying issues including depression, anxiety, marital, work, school, LGBTQ+ and interpersonal concerns. Each client is separate and unique and their therapy is tailored to their personal needs.

I have extensive experience and interest in working with individuals looking to recover from the effects of growing up in alcoholic or other dysfunctional households. Adversity and traumatic experiences are common. Strategies to reduce the impacts can include numbing, detaching, becoming depressed/hopeless, compulsiveness (i.e. acting without thinking), over-functioning, over-responsibility, avoidance, isolation, perfectionism, procrastination, hypervigilance and many others. All of which are protective and helpful when needed but often lead to inner conflict and unintended blowback including feelings of shame and worthlessness.

How does the "talking cure" help? It might have even been called the "listening cure." Having a helpful and supportive ear is something many people find they need at various transition points in their lives. Having a safe place to talk, in a warm and supportive environment, is crucial. The tool of our work is the relationship and, as research has shown, is the most important predictor of success in psychotherapy. I enjoy working with my patients as they seek to find their way to a richer and more fulfilling life.

Having extensive experience, I use empirically supported therapies, and have treated a wide range of ages as well as the most serious disorders. It is my belief that salient therapy treats a client in 3 different directions: top-down (spiritual dimension), inside out (healing of memories), and outside-in (Cognitive-Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). After a thorough assessment, I would identify with my client, determine problems on which to work, set appropriate goals, and determine the correct therapeutic intervention(s) to be used. Meeting those goals would be a therapeutic benchmark throughout the therapy.

My clients describe me as warm, compassionate and supportive. Our first steps will be creating a space where you feel safe. The therapy process is then guided by your needs and preferences. Together we will explore the issues that have brought you to therapy. Difficulties in life are normal. You are not alone. Hi and welcome! My name is Elyse and I am an eating disorder and body image specialist in the Philadelphia area. I also work extensively with anxiety disorders, self-esteem, and trauma co-occurring with an eating disorder or as stand-alone issues. I believe that with some courage, commitment, and hope, we can do great things and I am passionate about helping my clients realize their worth and how strong and resilient they really are. I understand that what is hurting you may also be protecting you, and that letting go is no easy feat. I'm here though, to hold your hand, cheer you on, and remind you that you can do this.

Take a moment and visualize your life as a garden, influenced by various individuals and experiences that have shaped its landscape. You may notice aspects of your garden that no longer align with your desires—a tangle of vines choking your flowers or plants that no longer serve you. Maybe you have yearning to create a garden that truly reflects who you are and are unsure of what you want to grow. Some sections of your garden are thriving and others aren't. Whether there is that type of knowing or its processing an adverse event(s), you have an awareness that your "garden" isn't as full as you want it to be.

At nPSYGHT, we emphasize the use of psychotherapy, while supplementing it with medication as needed and at minimum effective doses. We incorporate neuropsychotherapeutic concepts whenever possible, meaning we recognize that advances in our understanding of how the brain works can inform how psychotherapy can be conducted. We stress the importance of general good health habits - diet, exercise, sleep, relaxation methods (meditation, yoga, tai chi) - in promoting mental and behavioral well-being.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
