Utilizing my experience in the field and as a fellow human, I'll feel privileged to walk with you in your healing journey utilizing a variety of trauma informed techniques, EMDR/body regulation, and attachment-based therapy.
Awareness in itself is healing. -Fritz Perls. Imagine having the world's most incredible tool for healing, acceptance, and fulfilling experiences at your disposal. Now, what if I told you that YOU are actually this tool. Our mind and body connect in incredible ways. Sometimes, we need help learning how to listen more closely to ourselves and get to know the person we know we can be; and maybe, always were. It’s my hope that you find wholeness and peace through this process.

I am EMDR Trained as well.
Hello! My name is Alicia Luke, LCSW. I am so happy you are here! I honestly feel that "the greatest gift you can give someone is the space to be their most authentic self” - Ralph Waldo Emerson, and I feel that therapy can allow for this to happen if you accept and allow it. I utilize therapy interventions based on an individual's needs and presenting concerns, meeting you where you are at in your life. I believe it is important to understand one's environment and how a person perceives and interacts within it. My intent is to create a safe space for each client to feel heard, supported, and validated.

I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
I enjoy working with children, adolescents, families, and adults. In particular, I work with individuals (and their families) impacted by traumatic stress. I would describe traumatic stress as an "unhealed wound." These wounds can manifest themselves in disruptive behaviors, defiance, anxiety, depression, struggles with focus, aggression, self-injury, perfectionism and substance use. When wounds are triggered it is common for the person to engage in a fight, flight, or freeze response. The trauma oriented work that I offer assists people of all ages to engage in more effective responses to their wounds. The fight, flight, or freeze response goes away.

I provide EMDR therapy and specialize in trauma-related disorders.
We all need support at times and be proud of yourself for reaching out as it can be difficult. Stress, anxiety, depression, and trouble with life situations can lead to less satisfaction with life. Sometimes having healthy relationships and boundaries are difficult to achieve and having some help can make the process easier. I work with people who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, autism and ADHD.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
