Taking the first step of seeking support already shows tremendous strength and awareness! My outlook on therapy operates under the belief that people are always growing and changing towards a better version of themselves. Through experiences, achievements, mistakes and obstacles we all have the opportunity to learn and grow. As your counselor, I will always strive to help and encourage you to learn from your past, take power over your present, and look forward to your future. I take a holistic and eclectic approach to counseling and work with each person to identify their strengths and needs.

I have a special interest in OCD, as well as psychological trauma.
If you are looking for a therapist who can help you feel more in control of your life and your emotions, you are at the right place. I have experience working with people suffering from anxiety, depression, and difficult life transitions. Getting to know yourself deeper is a primary goal of therapy, as it will allow you to figure out what you might need in life: your relationships, work life, hobbies. You will discover healthy ways to cope with things outside of your control, instead of using self-destructive ways. I will assist you by offering a space free of judgment and stigma.

Hello! Thank you for taking this step and looking for a therapist. You're on the right track! I have known since middle school that helping others was the job for me. In one context or another I have been in the counseling field for 15 years, from settings such as prisons, to drug and alcohol centers, in home therapy, counseling in public schools and the community office setting. My number one priority is the client. If you are questioning taking the step to call or email, I encourage you to do so!

I have experience in treating individuals that suffer from depression, anxiety, substance abuse and all sorts of other psychological diagnoses. I concentrate on developing a therapeutic relationship and cultivating a safe environment where the clients can share freely. I am a very big fan of emphasizing the strengths and I follow a client-centered approach to counseling. Many times individuals and couples enter counseling seeking a resolution to long-standing conflicts or emotional stressors. You may be experiencing a sense of powerlessness or hopelessness. Our job, together, is to find alternative, healthy ways to address these concerns. My goal is not to instruct you but to trust in your innate ability to find the solutions that work for you. Counseling is the process by which we find those solutions-- so you regain power and control in your life.

In-person sessions offered at the Johnstown office. I will continue to offer virtual sessions too! Counseling doesn’t always have to involve diving into deep childhood trauma, though sometimes it does. Counseling can be the place to explore existential themes that we encounter throughout the human experience, such as meaninglessness, loneliness, shame, inauthenticity, and more. It can be the place where we find acceptance and validation that encourages us to take steps to achieve our goals for a more fulfilling existence. My approach focuses on helping you uncover your true self so that you can live your best life on YOUR terms.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
