“Life is Difficult”. One of my favorite opening sentences from M. Scott Peck’s book, The Road Less Traveled. But…it does not always have to be. I applaud and welcome anyone seeking help with therapy and embrace the opportunity in getting to know, witness, and work with you as we join in this process and journey together. I am honored to work with clients who are willing to challenge life's situations to find that road less traveled. I have worked extensively with addiction(s), dual diagnosis, trauma, anxiety, stress, depression, grief and loss, women's issues, relationships, codependency, parenting, and life changes.

I have helped clients navigate issues in the following areas: grief and loss, perinatal mental health, women's issues, cultural identity issues, and perfectionism.
My clients have worked through their grief, finding a healthier work/life balance, and have gotten to a place where they can do their best to live a life that's aligned with their values. My clients are people who want to break away from maladaptive generational cycles and trauma. They want to feel closer to their lineage by exploring different aspects of themselves and their culture. My clients recognize that in order to be a good ancestor for generations after them, they have to put in the work now by unlearning and training their brains to disengage from behaviors that no longer serve them.

I empower women and individuals to navigate through the crossroads and transitions in life in order to help them live their best lives. Because research has shown that transitions in life trigger physical and emotional stress responses in the body, and having coping skills to effectively manage the stress of life's crossroads can provide the emotional stamina needed to thrive, I offer relationship counseling, individual counseling for anxiety, depression, grief and loss associated with life transitions, and relationship issues.

In my years of practice, I enjoy helping people with relationship and family conflicts, trauma and anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, gender, sexual and racial identity, parenting, managing stress and illness, learning to advocate for oneself, overcoming self harm, making peace with one's body and more.
In this culture of rapid change and distraction, the vital experience of having someone's undivided expertise and attention is precious. I'll help you slow down. Together we’ll make sense of who you are and how your experiences have shaped your relationships and your view of the world. The relationship you have with yourself is the most important one you will ever have. Let's understand your ways of relating. I can help you feel at ease in talking about whatever is on your mind. We’ll pay attention to your mental and physical well-being and how the two connect. Being your authentic and healthiest self is possible.

For the past 25 years I have helped men and women address developmental issues such as marriage, divorce, stepfamilies, loss and bereavement, anger management, assertiveness training, and parent/communication skill building.
My practice style is problem-solving and goal-oriented. I utilize a psychodynamic/cognitive behavioral treatment methodology and incorporate a systems approach when dealing with individual and family psychopathology. I design and develop treatment plans tailored to individual needs while establishing short and long-term goals. With all of my clients, I provide a warm, sensitive, and supportive environment so that we can work together in a problem-solving way and find solutions to interpersonal difficulties. My style tends to be positive, interactive, direct, and empowering.

Issues that I have been successful in dealing include depression, anxiety, acute and chronic illness, loss and grief, personality issues and relationships.
I believe that psychotherapy is best done as a collaborative process. I have the training and experience and you, the client, bring all you know about yourself and your life. Together, we develop goals, both long and short term, that hopefully will lead to active awareness, emotional relief and behavioral changes.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
