Hello! My name is Cassie. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania, also Nationally Certified (NCC). I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Art Therapy as well as a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I am a strong believer that mental health is just as important as physical health. Due to this I tend to take on a holistic approach to treatment. I tend to view the relationship between myself and the client as the most important aspect of our work together, as I feel progress cannot be made without first building trust.

Everyday life often brings about many joys but also presents us with many obstacles, challenges, and disappointments that sometimes feel unbearable and lead us feeling overwhelmed, sad, and hopeless. The way we think and process these events lead to how we feel about ourselves in relation to the world. I use a cognitive behavioral approach to treat disorders related to anxiety, depression, grief, anger, obsessions, and compulsions. I assist individuals with developing the tools and skills necessary to make cognitive and behavioral changes that can open doors of opportunity for change, growth and personal fulfillment.

My ideal client is interested in growth and change. I work with individuals who are seeking to better understand themselves, process their experiences, and heal from hurt. Mental health is health. Most of us have not been taught to think critically about our life experiences, emotions, and triggers, we're simply just reacting and not understanding why we're struggling. In my practice, I work with people to make connections, heal from past hurts, and understand their feelings. I specialize in working with women, but provide services to men and folks anywhere across the gender spectrum.

Life can become overwhelming, sometimes we forget it is a work in progress. The last few years have been a wild ride! Detours can happen making it easy to forget that the detours may be necessary to help us move forward. I enjoy having the privilege of helping individuals reach their full potential by helping to recognize their strengths through therapeutic intervention, self care, identifying coping strategies and learning to stay in the moment. The work can be difficult but that does not mean there may not be laughter, tears and progress.

It is brave to choose how you want to craft your life. Many people are struggling through big life transitions, are unhappy in their relationships, or they want to move past anxiety and depression. Therapy is a place to understand what is happening now, and how to create something different and better to feel more satisfied. If this is you, I offer a space to look at and understand what is happening in your life, and how you can regain a sense of agency to create what you want. I am warm and engaging, and together we find patterns in your life that keep showing up and getting in your way. We look at how to cultivate what you want.

I work with clients who are struggling with issues such as substance use, depression, anxiety & past trauma. I also have experience working with both teens and adults. Clients I have worked with want to feel something different than they are feeling now. They want to set new goals in life and want to work together to achieve them. They want to feel different than they have been feeling at the moment they enter therapy. I understand that there are underlying issues that are affecting the way we feel, think, and behave.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
