I'm guided by trauma informed, social justice, feminist, art therapy, & liberation-focused approaches.
You're not too much. You deserve to take up space and have your needs met. Maybe you've learned to disconnect from your feelings and disregard your own needs filling everyone's cup but your own. You're left feeling empty, without energy or motivation to heal and fight for change. You want to make intentional changes that bring more joy, ease, and meaning but don't know where to start. You don't need to do this alone. Let's integrate your healing journey with anti-oppressive & anti-racist practices. We'll use creativity, curiosity, & connection to weave together your story, heal from trauma, & break cycles of oppression. You matter.

When our brains have been hardwired for responding because of trauma and adversity, we must actively seek to disrupt this pattern.
I believe the most powerful tool we can offer others is our ability to authentically, genuinely and completely listen. I have been privileged to work with many children, teens and adults and bear witness to their stories. It has been the most profound gift and I am grateful to have been trusted with the opportunity to hear them. My work as a clinician is grounded in listening. In establishing a safe, supportive and nurturing co-created environment. It is rooted in helping people find their voice and trust their own ability to change their lives. The power of being present and fully in the moment can transform lives.

I use a person-centered, strengths-based and trauma-informed approach.
Hi! I'm Julia. I specialize and am certified in perinatal mental health. I work with clients through the unpredictability of trying to start a family, including adoption and fertility issues. I support families who are facing the pain of pregnancy loss, or dealing with the aftermath of birth trauma. I treat perinatal mood and anxiety disorders that arise during pregnancy and/or the postpartum period. I provide a skilled perspective to help clients learn how to ride the waves of this delicate and vulnerable time.

I know what it’s like to live with a trauma history; with anxiety, depression, life changes; with self criticism and doubt.
I don’t believe in passively nodding while you talk about your most important challenges. I’m an active, compassionate therapist who engages with and supports you so that you can start living a more satisfying life right now. Difficult thoughts and feelings will become easier to manage and no longer control your life. You’ll grow in your understanding of yourself—why you do what you do, what you need and value, and the inner resources you have to create new possibilities. Whether your challenge is anxiety/depression, trauma, self esteem, life changes, or relationship problems, we’ll work together to build the life you deserve.

I have extensive experience working with Mood Disorders, Trauma, PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Mindfulness, Adjustment Disorders, and Personality Disorders.
I have over twenty years of experience working with people, 18-elders. I believe that therapy is an adventure, where one chooses to go, regardless of not knowing the way. Through the relationship this awareness is brought together by truth, compassion, humor, and some pain. The therapist serves as a guide, modeling and teaching the individual a more effective way of living. I see the individual as someone with a whole life that exists beyond the therapy session. The relationship, which fosters hope is a non-judgmental environment, that underlies all the work that is undertaken.

I obtained my license in Clinical Social Work and later transitioned into a professional educator role, concentrating on Trauma and Loss.
We all experience loss, illness, and other challenging life events. They can unsettle our emotional equilibrium, making us feel exposed or in crisis and necessitating assistance to discover a new path to equilibrium. Depression, anxiety, diminished motivation, relationship difficulties, and even suicidal ideation often accompany such losses, changes, and disappointments. Ignoring these issues can exacerbate the pain and may pose a risk to those experiencing severe distress.

I graduated from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2018 and received a masters degree in counseling psychology with a focus in trauma and addictions.
As a therapist, it is always my goal to make the client feel safe, comfortable, and supported. I like to validate that starting the process of therapy and opening up to a stranger can be challenging but is the first step towards change. I have worked with many clients struggling with a wide range of issues, but mostly work with those struggling with anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. In working with clients, I utilize evidence based treatments such as CBT and DBT. I am here to help the client reach their goals by aiding them in learning tools and techniques that help them to cope and make changes.

I make it a point to provide you with humility, validation, empowerment, insight, and humor (with a boisterous laugh that will make you smile!) I work primarily with depression, anxiety, suicidality, trauma, emotional regulation, self esteem, co-dependency, and identity issues.
Therapy can seem daunting and overwhelming if you have not experienced it or had a negative experience in the past. The most important part of therapy is establishing a trusting relationship with your therapist that allows you to feel comfortable, heard, and validated. In therapy (and in life), I take a strengths-based, growth stance. I truly believe you are doing your best AND you have room to grow. My place in the therapy room is to take the journey with you. I love helping adolescents and emerging adults with their identity exploration and helping them to be true and authentic to who they are (however that may apply to them).

I also have experience with individuals who identify as neurodivergent and people who have experienced trauma, as well as experience working with depression, anxiety, identity formation, and parenting issues.
My goal is for each person I work with to feel seen and accepted as they are, and over time to be able to view themselves through a compassionate lens that acknowledges both strengths and challenges. I approach therapy as both a learning and a healing experience. I work to help people identify and understand their values, beliefs, and behavioral and relational patterns, so that they can assess whether these continue to be a good fit for them.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
