Have you ever tried to talk about something difficult that is going on with your child and it feels like they don’t want to verbally address it? Do you often get one word answers when asking them about things as simple as their day at school? From my experience, it often feels too direct and intimidating for children to answer these things verbally. They also may not have the skills to talk about topics with emotion attached to them yet. For this reason, I believe in the use of play to help a child communicate complicated feelings as a child’s language is play.

You are coming into therapy because there is something you are having difficulty working out and you need help from someone else.Therapy is a way to contact parts of you that are disconnected. This can be described in terms of an authentic self and untrue self. As we grow up we learn to make creative adjustments in order to adapt to our environment and we may keep our thoughts and emotions to ourselves. I am a good listener but not a silent partner, because what is important in therapy is the therapeutic relationship that develops between the two of us.

My entire career, I have worked mainly with teens, young adults and families. I believe strongly in the power of the relationship and work hard to help families connect in an honest and genuine way with their kids. I have expertise in using Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD and anxiety. I also provide Comprehensive Behavioral Interventions (COMB/CBIT) for Trichotillomania (hairpulling) and Tic Disorders.
