I have been in practice thirty years. I see psychotherapy as a process of increasing self awareness, developing a more realistic and tolerant self esteem, and identifying and working through losses, disappointments and relational conflicts. This process enables reduction in pain, greater self acceptance, and comfort in relationships and family. This process occurs in a collaborative effort between you the client, and myself. The safe environment of the office allows for the full expression and understanding of what you experience, think, and feel. Our work together enables symptom relief, greater personal understanding, growth, responsibility and contentment.

I believe that the ability to calm down and solve problems are two of the most crucial skills for success in life! Over the past thirty plus years I have had the honor of having many people from many different backgrounds share their stories of life's victories, challenges, and pain with me. Most individuals have both obvious and hidden strengths that can be called up to help them to move past obstacles. I feel skilled about being able to create the emotional safety for people to truly discover and tap in to their own resources. As clients then learn and become empowered with strong, coping skills, exciting postive changes happen!

It takes a lot of Courage to seek help. For most, the journey begins when the struggle becomes overwhelming or unbearable. The Willingness to accept support & guidance usually does not come easy. I applaud anyone who does so. Basic human needs include survival, a sense of belonging, power, freedom and fun. When these elements are not in place or are out of balance, we can present as anxious, depressed, stressed out and angry. I work well with people who are wanting to gain clarity around imbalances, and who want to take action on making changes that align with, and help to maintain, personal integrity.

Balance in life is difficult to achieve and maintain. We all feel the need for support, guidance and connection with others. I have over 15 years of experience working with children, teens and adults, helping to guide you through a process of self-awareness, insight and perspective in achieving a state of balance. In a nurturing, compassionate and empathic setting, we will explore how stress impacts your sense of well-being and manifests in unhealthy patterns and habits. We will identify and establish positive coping strategies and integrate healthy boundaries to attain the goals and life we envision.

Hi! My name is Lisa Broadrup. During my 25+ years in the field of mental health, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of settings. Many times, clients initially come in because they are in desperate need of relief from their pain and suffering. Yes, therapy can and often does help relieve pain, but it can also help clients explore issues that are effecting their overall quality of life. Over the years I have witnessed the strength and resilience of the human spirit as clients have demonstrated again and again that they can make gains that they did not think possible.

Throughout my career I have enjoyed working as a psychologist delivering counseling, consultation and assessment services. I consider it a privilege to be invited into an individual's world at a time of need and work hard to build a trusting alliance with each person. I listen to my clients and engage them around the unique stories they share so we can set goals and a treatment plan that is personally tailored to each individual and/or couple. My approach is based on years of experience and a solid theoretical foundation. It is a relational one such that I use our therapeutic connection to facilitate change.

The teenage years are the most vulnerable, exciting, and growing years of a young person’s life. Self discovery can often yield low self esteem, independence can easily shift to rebellion, and a slow maturation process often creates impulsive decision making. And when a parent’s warnings and worries don’t seem to have an impact on the teenager’s course, or when it feels too heavy to carry alone, it’s helpful to have another guiding force to help. Through counseling, an adolescent can feel understood, begin to understand themselves, and learn to understand and accept their role in the family and society.

I understand my role as your therapist as being a co-journeyer in your path through healing into a healthier, fulfilling life. My style focuses on reflective-empathetic listening to promote self-acceptance and awareness; cognitive flexibility and experimenting with new choices; and the affirmation of strengths. I have specialized experience with eating disorders, body image (HAES), and the effect of loved ones' addictions/alcoholism.
