Are you a new parent struggling to cope with what feels like never-ending worry or sadness? Maybe everyone around you has made it seem like pregnancy and life with a newborn should be joyous and yet you feel so stuck, so worried, and possibly even struggle to get out of bed. Or, maybe you’ve been a parent for a while and things just don’t seem to be getting any better. How could anyone understand the overwhelming and scary thoughts in your head? And what if everyone thinks you’re crazy? If you’re here reading this today, maybe you’re at the point where you feel desperate to be understood in this part of your life.

As a therapist I support people who feel stuck in their personal or family lives due to feeling depressed, anxious, hurt, hopeless, or angry. All of these issues can make you feel discouraged and our lives become more difficult to manage. But, don't get discouraged. Very often pain in our lives is a necessary component for change and growth even if it does not look like that at this moment.

Enneagram informed therapy. In its essence, psychotherapy is the art of healing the soul. As psychotherapists, we care for the soul of the other. Together we can explore and develop new resources for deep transformation to create a healing environment and establish peace, balance, and meaning. Do you want to identify your core strengths and weaknesses, gain greater self-awareness, and work through challenges more effectively, or understand the function of that Critical Inner Voice? Maybe learn how your personality protects you during times of conflict so you can become wiser and drop dysfunctional parts of your personality.

I enjoy working with clients who are determined to see change occur in their lives. Change is hard but you don't have to do it alone.. and I'm here for you! Clients need to know that they aren't "crazy," they aren't "broken," and they aren't "unfixable." Anxiety is a b!tch. Depression sucks. Working through trauma/abuse feels like torture. Your experiences and emotions are very real! AND it doesn't need to be that way forever. Working with me, you will learn that you can feel validated and also encouraged. I'm not going to let you get, and stay, stuck.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
