I specialize in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, CBT and other therapy modalities.
I am License Clinical Social Worker and have been in practice for 14 years. I like to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for people to share their story with me. I like to work with others to find their true potential in healing and in life. I believe that we have a lot more power to heal then we give ourselves credit for. I like to take a holistic approach in health and wellness. I enjoy listening to people’s stories and feel honored to be a part of their healing journey, whatever that may look like.

Together, we will address the mental struggles that have been keeping you stuck through EMDR and DBT and then work through practical skill building in each area of wellness (emotional, intellectual, social, financial, environmental, occupational, physical, spiritual), so you can start living the life you've wanted for so long, but never knew how to reach.
If you've been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, trapped, or like your brain just won't stop ruminating and you're tired, but don't know how to make it stop, I'm here for you. When we're low, life can feel scary, lonely and confusing without a roadmap. I help clients find energy, mental rest, and stability in their lives. We'll take it one step at a time and walk you through mental health recovery at the pace that feels right to you, so you can gain control of your life. I’ve personally dealt with severe anxiety, depression, suicide attempts, trauma, alcohol abuse, & the loss of a brother to addiction, so I'm no stranger to the journey.

I am Erin King, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about helping people recover from trauma. I will use a person-centered approach to meet you where you are at. I will listen when you explain your goals and what you would like to get out of therapy. As a social worker, I was trained to use a person-centered, strengths-based approach. As a trauma-centered practitioner, I ask not "what is wrong with you?" but "What happened to you and how has that impacted you?" The relational aspect of therapy is crucial: studies show that the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client is a predictor of client success.

Do you feel like you're constantly walking on eggshells, waiting for the next disaster? Does your mind race with worst-case scenarios? Maybe you withdraw from social events to avoid the judgment of others. Maybe you feel like you don't measure up to the people around you. Your inner critic tells you that you're not good enough, smart enough, or not lovable. This relentless inner turmoil has left you feeling exhausted, isolated, and riddled with doubt. The net result? You struggle to experience the joy and fulfillment that you crave.

I work with primarily preteens, adolescents, and adults. My main focus of treatment is working with clients who are struggling with emotional issues, whether they are situational or due to a diagnosed mood and/or personality disorder. Additionally, I specialize in treating clients who have both emotional issues and substance abuse problems. I have worked in the mental health and addictions field for the past 20 years and feel that most substance abuse issues are the symptom of an underlying emotional problem. Music therapy is a modality I offer to clients who may struggle with traditional "talk therapy".

At some point in life, many of us struggle with a loss of joy and purpose in response to challenges such as chronic pain, illness, trauma, life transitions, and other major stressors. I can help you stop fighting yourself and create a more peaceful and meaningful life. I see therapy as a dialogue, with us exploring together what works and is important for you. My clients often find that our work helps them better understand themselves and their patterns, and develop new, more effective ways of coping with challenges.

Want a therapist that flexes and adapts to your needs, goals, and style? I believe it is my job to learn about and conform to what my clients need, whether it's a more laid-back listening-oriented style or a more directive goal-oriented style. Your counseling process should be completely unique to who you are as a person, couple, or family and you should be encouraged to sit in the driver's seat. I am comfortable using a variety of therapy modalities and love creating tailored therapeutic experiences that "fit just right" for all of my clients. I am also open to discussing holistic options including diet, exercise, and spirituality.

My specialty has been in working with individuals who feel overwhelmed by their emotions to work towards feeling a greater sense of balance and control through the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT) strategies and mindfulness.
I love to see my clients discover and learn to empower themselves to be exactly who they are and to live the life they want for themselves. Sometimes feeling overwhelmed by certain emotions, stressful life events, or self-doubt can make it difficult to identify and utilize your strengths, to feel good about yourself, and to make the changes you want. I work with my clients to help them use the strengths they already have as well as to learn new skills to help them remember just how capable they are and to further empower them to work towards the change they want.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
