My practice incorporates a feminist perspective, acknowledging the traumatic influence of systemic and personal experiences of racism, sexism, heterosexism, and cissexism.
I hold space for adults who are healing from childhood trauma, racial trauma, and gendered trauma. Trauma means that you've faced deeply stressful events that have left significant physical, emotional, or spiritual scars. Each person's encounter with trauma is unique, but universally, the body becomes an alarm system, indicating when a traumatic event has occurred. Trauma can disrupt your sleep and hijack your thought processes, often anchoring you in a state of constant fear or anger. Together, we'll embark on a journey to discover strategies that ground your body and help you regain a a sense of safety.

You are smart, competent, and lovable, but every day is a struggle to trust that this is true. The "should haves" and "what-ifs" pile up before the first cup of coffee, draining you of energy and motivation. It's time to turn the table on anxiety and depression. You deserve the support and guidance it takes to feel strength, clarity and enthusiasm in your life. You've tried doing this alone. Now It's time to get help.

I believe that people are naturally resilient, possessing a deep well of inner strength. Every experience, past and present, is relevant to therapeutic work, and I strive to create a collaborative space to explore the things that weigh us all down. I approach each session with empathy, curiosity and an open mind, and encourage you to approach your own relationships, thoughts, and day-to-day life the same way. My relational approach to therapy is strongly rooted in the psychodynamic tradition, integrating narrative, DBT, and mindfulness techniques to meet the specific needs of each person I work with.

As a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I deeply understand that our relationships mean everything: to our family, our partners, our friends, and ourselves. When we are unhappy and suffering, our needs are not being met in a fundamental way. My vision for successful therapy is allowing the space and time to explore those needs. As a therapist who uses systems theory, I might explore the different ‘parts’ of a person's experience with themselves and others in Individual and Family Therapy. In Couples Therapy, I pull from the Gottman Method as well as EFT to strengthen and heal relationships with fantastic and practical tools.

In life, it's easy to stay on autopilot. While there are times when being on autopilot works for us, there are other times when it doesn't. Through years of studying and practicing psychotherapy, I have become highly skilled at helping my patients to stop living on autopilot, and, instead, to start making CHOICES. Psychotherapy is a process of getting incrementally more honest with yourself. As therapy unfolds and you begin to know yourself more deeply, you can start to examine whether you are living the life you want, and if not, how you want it to change.

I am a clinical psychologist, parenting coach, author, and workshop leader, in practice for over 35 years. I am also a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Therapy works best as a collaborative relationship between therapist and client - a process that encourages personal growth, behavioral changes, and self-awareness. While offering my experience and perspective, I encourage an interactive, respectful, and engaged therapy process. I am currently offering individual, couples, and family therapy through teletherapy throughout PA and in PSYPACT authorized states.

I believe in the healing power of psychotherapy. I understand that the process might be a long one. If I take on a client, I am in it for the entire journey. Whether you facing questions about your relationship or your life path, psychotherapy can lead you towards authentic answers. I am able to use myself, along with the therapeutic relationship to allow you to find ways to live more fully. I am comfortable working to help you access the parts of yourself that feel both scary and powerful. I find that I am particularly skilled at working at the intersection of neurodivergence and queerness.

I have over twenty years of experience working with people, 18-elders. I believe that therapy is an adventure, where one chooses to go, regardless of not knowing the way. Through the relationship this awareness is brought together by truth, compassion, humor, and some pain. The therapist serves as a guide, modeling and teaching the individual a more effective way of living. I see the individual as someone with a whole life that exists beyond the therapy session. The relationship, which fosters hope is a non-judgmental environment, that underlies all the work that is undertaken.

The counseling relationship thrives when you are able to be open, knowing that your vulnerable stories will be received with empathy and acceptance. Whatever struggles you feel now or whatever barrier is impeding your goals, whether it be depression, anxiety, addiction, or unresolved trauma, the safety of a comfortable counseling relationship is the first step to begin healing. I believe everyone has the ability to develop resilience and function in this world as their true self, despite any pain or fear previously blocking your path. My goal is to help you live confidently as your true self, even if that means embracing our quirks.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
