I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients, along with adolescents and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, gender and relationship issues, trauma, grief/ loss, and life changes.
Everyone has a lens through which we view the world created by our unique experiences, struggles, triumphs, and diverse cultural languages, but so often we feel as if we lack the voice to express our true selves and needs to others. We struggle to find the courage to live authentically in a world that often doesn’t understand or validate our humanity, empathy, and sense of self. As we find self-empowerment, we can come together to empower our families, communities, and ultimately our world as a united whole to meet the challenges we face as human beings. Therapy can help overcome past trauma to help us live fully in the present.

Support for you to process grief, trauma, and other situations will be provided with a problem solving focus.
My ideal client will discuss ways they’ve tried to address their issues, and will be open about what they want to change. During the evaluation we will create a plan that will focus on current situations with respect to relevant history. As we review patterns we will work to understand and reprocess any traumatic memories. Together we can build a connection based on trust and honesty. Strengths will grow as we practice using creative tools and new coping skills. Our sessions can be scheduled at comfortable intervals to provide ongoing, affordable support for as long as you need.

I specialize in helping people heal from trauma and grief, and I can also support you in addressing a variety of other types of issues.
All people have the potential to change, grow and find meaning. Trauma and grief can interfere with this process and cause you to feel stuck. Many challenges that bring people into therapy (for example, relationship issues, depression and anxiety), have their roots in unresolved trauma and grief. As an EMDR therapist, I will help you identify these connections and activate your brain’s own natural ability to heal. EMDR goes beyond the insight sought in traditional talk therapy. By resolving the underlying issues contributing to your problems on a deep, emotional level, we will bring about significant and lasting change.

Therapy helps and supports the process that you seek. I meet you where you are in life and create a safe space to support your journey.

You have good days and bad days. At times, the sadness and stress are overwhelming. Maybe someone important to you has died or you're struggling with a significant relationship or a life transition. Maybe others cannot relate to your loss & you're feeling very alone. You've landed here because you need to talk to someone about it. I specialize in grief and loss. Grief is a natural response to death & loss but this feels like a wilderness you have not explored before and you need some guidance. Are you interested in feeling less overwhelmed & more settled? You don't have to do this on your own.

I've been a clinical psychologist for 34 years, giving clients the support and strategies they need to deal with anxiety, depression, negative self-esteem, stress management, organizational skills, motivation, trauma and tragedy, and grief and loss. I have had the best results by using COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT), and Mindfulness Meditation. I also use HYPNOSIS if and when appropriate. I also offer Live, Online VIDEO COUNSELING, which is more convenient for many clients, and very helpful to clients for whom distance and transportation are obstacles to getting the help they want and need.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
