My training and experience has been in implementing Cognitive Therapy strategies, coupled with developing skills from the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy model.
Making meaningful change in our day to day lives, can be challenging. Negative thought patterns, self-doubt, and fear can contribute to anxiety and depression, leaving us feeling stuck, or unsure what to do next. The good news is, there's relief for these patterns which can yield improvement to overall quality of life.

I use a combination of psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy approaches, like EMDR.
Does managing and working through life’s challenges feel impossible at times? Is it a challenge believing you're worthy? Maybe you are feeling stuck or stagnant and sense that you need a change, however are unsure just what that is. Past and current life experiences can shape thoughts and feeling about the self, impacts relationships with others, and influences future events in sometimes unhelpful, or even harmful ways. It is my commitment to ‘meet you where you are’ when you come into my office, and build a trusting therapeutic relationship together.

Sometimes it's difficult to identify why you're feeling out of sorts. This can be an individual or interpersonal experience. For over 30 years, I've helped adults regain a sense of purpose in their work and personal relationships through individual and group psychotherapy. This is especially true for folks who feel silenced or unheard. I can help you find your voice! But the most helpful thing to do is to talk to a few therapists about their approaches and see if you connect with them. I'm happy to discuss how group or individual therapy can help you achieve more satisfaction in life.

Life transitions can be tough. Whether you are a young adult transitioning to life on your own, a parent whose child is exerting their independence in the teen years, relationship issues in marriage, divorce, or caring for aging parents; life throws us all curve balls from time to time that can leave us feeling paralyzed, and not knowing what to do or how to respond. I can help you process your situation and give you the confidence to move forward with courage and dignity.

Are you willing to get to know yourself better? Are you willing to learn more about why you do the things you do, to be thoughtful about yourself? Are you willing to change? Are you willing to accept that some changes come easier than others? If so, I will listen and assist you with this. Sometimes it is a matter of learning simple techniques and other times it is a matter of getting to know yourself better, gaining a new perspective, and making new choices by experimenting with new or other ideas and behaviors to see what works for you now.

Making the decision to seek professional support is a truly personal experience. It's important to connect with a therapist that you can develop a trusting relationship with who can also meet your needs. I am aware of how difficult it can be to adapt to a new way of living and being. If you are tired and feeling alone with your thoughts and fears I am willing and able to support you in resolving the resistance to embracing change.

Behavioral Issues Therapists
What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?
No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.
What therapy types help with behavioral issues?
Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.
How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?
Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.
How effective is therapy for behavior issues?
Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
