While I work with many types of problems and specific individual needs, I specialize in the treatment of trauma (which includes PTSD from single traumatic experiences, as well as complex trauma from childhood experiences), sleep/insomnia difficulties, the various forms of anxiety, grief, hopelessness, suicide, and chronic pain/illness.
Finding a caring, dedicated therapist to help you with your psychological or physical difficulties is important. Sessions are 1 to 2 hours, as determined by what you want and need. Some specialized sessions, e.g. EMDR, are 1 1/2 hours. Your time and energy are valuable, and while there are times when talking is helpful, I am always results-focused using effective collaborative actions and solutions that will help you resolve your problem(s). Please consult my website at KevinDrab.com to learn more about myself and my philosophy and therapeutic approaches. I do not take insurance, but provide receipts for insurance reimbursement.

Areas of specialized care & success include, but are not limited to: trauma, chronic pain, nerve damage, complex medical conditions, grief, spiritual development, struggles with weight, stomach/GI issues, insomnia, anxiety, depression, medication intolerance, and some areas of addiction.

I am here to help you become the best version of yourself. I have always been attracted to a holistic approach to counseling that includes brain health, nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, and overall wellness. Along with talk therapy, I also utilize Neurofeedback training to help stabilize brainwaves. Neurofeedback Therapy is a non-invasive/non-drug based form of treatment that facilitates desired functions and mental states. Self-regulation is key in improving daily stressors, quality of life, and a positive well being. I am rewarded by seeing my clients' efforts to grow and achieve their goals.

Life is a journey filled with moments of joy and moments of challenge. We all experience changes and transitions that can bring a sense of achievement and fulfillment, or leave us feeling overwhelmed and in pain. In these times, it is important to have a support system that can celebrate our successes and provide a safe space for us to express our vulnerabilities and emotions in a world that may not always offer such understanding. It is common for us to have interactions and relationships that get stuck in negative patterns. By identifying and breaking these cycles we can improve our relationships and our lives.

Continually feeling sad, anxious or hopeless can make you feel like this cycle in your life will never end. Feeling stuck, numb, or helpless can feel downright frustrating some days. Racing thoughts and negative thoughts seem to take up space in your head that just won't turn off - "I'm not good enough." "Is this person judging me right now?" "Everyone is looking at me." "I screwed up again." Whether you have worry and racing thoughts from anxiety, or you are neurodivergent and finding your way in a neurotypical world, I can help. I specialize in individuals with anxiety and adult ADHD.

Taking the first step to talk to a therapist can be overwhelming and frightening. It takes strength and courage, but it can be life changing. My goal is to create a safe, caring and nonjudgemental space for clients to be heard and understood. It is my privilege to work with individuals and couples to instill hope, empowerment, and support personal growth. Communicating feelings in a safe environment promotes healing through expression, which often leads to insight into self and more meaningful connections with others. Taking the first step is the most difficult step.

As a psychotherapist, I have the privilege of getting to know and work with people from all walks of life. Some people are feeling a little more depressed than they used to, or more anxious, or angry. Others feel stuck, or hopeless, or really don't know how they feel. Some people feel they don't have a voice, while others hear voices that are upsetting to them. I also work with people who want to drink or use drugs less, or not at all, and others that are involved with the criminal justice system. Many people want to better their relationships in some way, and most want to finally feel some peace.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
