I specialize in working with clients who have experienced childhood trauma, domestic/intimate partner violence or relationship challenges, chronic pain/illness, and substance use issues. I also appreciate the beautiful tangents, metaphors, and insights from my work with neurodiverse clients. Much of my work focused on helping clients examine how trauma has shaped their lives, decisions, & current circumstances and find ways to heal. Finding meaning and insight from the connections and patterns we can see in the past and present is key to informing the work we can do together to pursue a more intentional and satisfying future.

Do you struggle with life transitions, coping with stress, relationship issues, learning how to communicate effectively, etc? Do you want to learn social or coping skills, build self-esteem, or talk through life stressors? Is your goal to gain insight into your emotions/behaviors, learn adaptive coping skills, and communicate effectively with others? My ideal client would be motivated to improve themselves in whichever goal they chose and would strive to meet their fullest potential. The client would be willing to take accountability and acknowledge their behaviors and how they may have affected them, whether good or bad.

I am open to working with clients from all walks of life, those who know what their goals are, and those who are uncertain about what they expect from therapy. My professional and lived experience helps me relate to clients who have difficulties adjusting to changes in life, as well as older adults, caregivers, and people of all ages struggling with family issues. A psychodynamic approach helps clients feel listened to and encouraged to develop their story, gain insight and self-awareness, & notice the connection between past events and current difficulties.

Choosing a therapist that you connect with is often the most important aspect to successful therapy. It can be daunting to find the right fit and scary to expose yourself. If you really want to know Brittany from her bio and how she operates, words like tenacious, bold, relatable, multifaceted, humble and genuine. Brittany's approach is infused with immense compassion and being straightforward- talking to people like they are people using language that they understand and are comfortable with versus professional language that can create a power shift that influences dynamics for a working relationship.

Ideally, I work best with adults struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders or relationship problems. Issues I support are that of developing stronger interpersonal social rhythms, development of effective coping skills; using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Based Therapy, and improved sense of self efficacy. Clients who are able to identify strengths that help them in their recovery, and deficits in their recovery can begin working with myself in setting goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time bound.

Integration is a process in which a person revisits and actively engages in making sense of, working through, translating, and processing the content of their psychedelic experience. Through intentional and supportive practices, this process allows one to gradually capture and incorporate the emergent lessons and insights into their lives, thus moving toward greater balance and wholeness, both internally and externally.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
