I help people with anxiety, depression, grief, divorce recovery, trauma, imposter syndrome, shame, guilt, and other issues life presents. Problems can feel large, like a two-ton boulder. Therapy is a place to unpack what you can’t share with people you know. You'll develop the tools you need to move that boulder out of the way so you can move forward. Life is complicated and it can get heavy and messy. Things can seem like they've been turned upside down. Some situations feel like a funhouse mirror and you want out of the funhouse but you don’t know how to find the exit.

I specialize in treating substance use disorders and addictions, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relational challenges and trauma, life transitions, and matters of spirituality and purpose.
As a therapist, I work with my clients to help them move toward a fulfilling, connected, and meaningful life. As human beings, we each have core yearnings to belong, to feel our experience is meaningful, and to know our lives matter. Unfortunately, because life sometimes involves emotional, psychological, social, and physical pain we can get stuck in patterns that don’t serve us. I help people develop insight into who they are and what they want, so they can make choices with greater clarity and confidence and live with greater balance and healing.

I work with people struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar illness, grief and trauma.
A sense of wellbeing is the outcome of psychotherapy. This is a journey that we take together. There is no magic way to reach wellbeing. Your wellbeing will be reached through the act of self reflection , establishing appropriate interpersonal boundaries, exploring and resolving grief from loss, increasing effective communication skills, learning problem resolution tools, creating realistic expectations of one's self and others, creating self preservation activities and resolving prior hurts that negatively affect your present life. All of these therapeutic gains are within the reach of the client in my psychotherapy office.

Can you relate? You tend to be very hard on yourself. You’ve been told you’re “too sensitive” and find yourself shutting down because of it. Your relationships feel stuck or frustrating. You’re experiencing some life transitions and it’s bringing up grief and confusion. Maybe you want to build a family, but it feels like it won’t be possible. Maybe you’re trying to conceive or are pregnant, and finding it lonely and scary. Regardless, you’re curious to start feeling through past hurts, and family hang-ups, and to stop intergenerational cycles of poor boundaries, communication, and more…

How does the "talking cure" help? It might have even been called the "listening cure." Having a helpful and supportive ear is something many people find they need at various transition points in their lives. Having a safe place to talk, in a warm and supportive environment, is crucial. The tool of our work is the relationship and, as research has shown, is the most important predictor of success in psychotherapy. I enjoy working with my patients as they seek to find their way to a richer and more fulfilling life.

I specialize in working with maternal mental health issues and family problems. I have great experience with moms, families of children with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and family relationships. The 'right treatment' is not the same for everyone and I work to understand and integrate the physical and mental health factors that impact your situation. I am not pretentious or judgmental. I am practical and personable. My success comes from my understanding and willingness to treat what you need first, and utilize all the expertise available to help you and your family function the way you want.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
