Over my 30 years of experience, I have seen that when clients reach out for therapy, it is a sign of strength and a willingness to change. I view counseling as a partnership between the client and myself, and help each client learn a new skill set that enables them to grow through life's challenges. I provide a non-judgmental and calming environment, with a focus on mindfulness. A holistic approach is used, which recognizes the importance of addressing body, mind, emotions, and spirit in order to achieve and maintain health. I am a safe, neutral sounding board for clients, which allows them to learn, grow, and heal.

I specialize in working with adolescents, but love helping people of all ages using a blend of experiential, cognitive, and systemic perspectives.
My primary role as a therapist is to provide a safe, genuine relationship - A place for you to be both the person you're afraid to show and the one you desire to be. Life has a tendency to tangle our needs and dreams, making it hard to access our abilities. I'm here to help coax out those threads of hope and strength to be crafted into your true narrative. You may have a vivid picture of your goals in seeking therapy, or simply a yearning for growth. Together we can make that vision manifest in your day to day life.

I teach techniques grounded in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to those who feel they cannot move beyond their grief, fear and anger.
I see my role in therapy as one who serves as a guide for clients as they remove whatever blocks their path to personal growth and healing. We work to determine the sources of why actions intended to fix problems repeatedly fail the objective. Strategies taught during sessions teach people to create their own plan for change. Therapy is provided for those who have endured child and/or adult trauma, those who who are overwhelmed by loss, or those seeking direction as to how to optimistically manage problems and move forward on their own path to personal fulfillment.

We work together using techniques from ACT, CBT, Gottman, Psychodynamic, and other evidence-based approached to bring you to those goals.
Inner and relationship peace, everyone hopes to be heard, cared for, and have purpose to their day and life. Sometimes we lose these things along the way and we don't know how to get them, maybe we never had them. We can feel lonely even when we're in a relationship, or unsure of what to do and ultimately do nothing instead, constantly battling regret, guilt, shame, sadness, and anger. You may be one of those folks to has felt that way, who has wanted to make something different happen in their life but couldn't figure out how to make that happen.

I use a blended therapy approach that primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, but draws from other theoretical approaches.
Are you feeling stuck? Does it feel like life’s events have knocked you off your feet? Are you struggling with feeling sad and as if life will never get better? Have you tried to solve the problems in your life on your own and realized you need help from someone else?

In addition, I utilize evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in practice, tailoring treatment plans to best meet the needs of each individual.
My favorite part about being a therapist is seeing someone’s soul shine, seeing them smile, and helping them to find purpose in life again. Life can be really difficult and sometimes we just need to talk about it to make sense of it all. It is my goal to help you meet your goals and find that light inside of you that may be burning out or may have gone out years ago. With a compassionate and client-centered approach, I am committed to empowering individuals to overcome challenges, find resilience, and achieve personal growth.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
