I provide a welcoming, safe, private office to support healing and growth - where honesty is valued and not judged. I approach sessions with empathic listening, compassion, respect and genuine curiosity. My approach to our work together also includes asking questions, offering interpretations, providing psycho-education, skill building, encouragement, honesty and a splash of humor.

Being explorers of the human experience, we do the best we can to find answers and direction through the complexity of it all. As a result of this process, we learn who we are and who we are trying to become. I believe psychotherapy is a means for anyone seeking to better understand their relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them.

Stressed? Overwhelmed? Ready to feel better? You have started the process, the hardest part is the next step, reaching out and making an appointment. In the chaotic world we live in today, it is hard to reach that place of healing, self-fulfillment and achievement - but just because it is hard, that doesn't mean it is impossible. Whether it's the day-to-day stresses, traumatic events that haunt you or concerns for your children or loved ones - we are all vulnerable to the struggles of human existence and we don't have to walk our journeys alone. We utilize the best evidence-based practices from neurofeedback to talk therapy.

In-person sessions offered at the Johnstown office. I will continue to offer virtual sessions too! Counseling doesn’t always have to involve diving into deep childhood trauma, though sometimes it does. Counseling can be the place to explore existential themes that we encounter throughout the human experience, such as meaninglessness, loneliness, shame, inauthenticity, and more. It can be the place where we find acceptance and validation that encourages us to take steps to achieve our goals for a more fulfilling existence. My approach focuses on helping you uncover your true self so that you can live your best life on YOUR terms.

I have extensive experience and training in working with children, teens, and families who have experienced trauma, behavioral challenges, and OCD and Anxiety disorders.
Having been in the mental health realm for 12+ years now, I have learned that in life there can be great hurt, loss, and suffering but there is also great healing, hope, and joy. We all have a story we were made to tell. We were all made to heal and thrive in relationships. Each person's story is different but each person's story is full of strength, and courage. I'd like to walk with people on their road to healing and better health. I aim to help find resources of comfort, coping, and support. I hope to bring warmth, humor, and practical skills to help clients on their way, and help you lighten whatever burden you are carrying.

I have seen that Christians in general can get caught up in scrupulosity, which we work through from both the spiritual and the obsessive compulsive aspects.
Every person has the ability to tap into their potential and recognize that they are a unique gift to the world. Many of my clients have not been aware that they can learn self-control, problem solving, courage, spiritual serenity, and find joy in life. They may be held back by internalized negative beliefs about themselves and others. We all need to be heard, validated, challenged, and supported as we take the next step. I love to help people find balance in their lives, and build healthy relationships. Depending on the needs of the client, I may use worksheets, visual aids, bibliotherapy, therapy games, play therapy techniques.

Perhaps you are looking for relief from: depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, eating disorders, addiction, grief, or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
There is no need to suffer in silence. Over the years I have heard people say, "I regret that I waited so long to come to counseling." When people struggle with life's challenges alone, they usually have little success. This solitary method often results in a deep sense of hopelessness and unhappiness. At the Samaritan Counseling Center, it has been my privilege to empower men, women and adolescents to make their lives more fulfilling. During counseling sessions, you will experience a safe environment to tell your story-and then together, we will begin the journey to hope and healing.

While our work together will focus on treating OCD & anxiety-related disorders, I intend to utilize a holistic approach necessary in treating the whole person, which may include family work as well.
My clinical experience began in general private practice, and I later moved on to develop a more specialized treatment approach through an internship with The Center for OCD and Anxiety in August 2020. From there, I transitioned into my roles as Associate Therapist, Intake Manager, and Caregiver Support Group Leader until February 2024. As I believe that effective therapy includes an appropriate balance of empathy, humor, active listening, and proper guidance rooted in evidence-based practices, I utilize an eclectic mix of therapeutic modalities (listed below) to tailor treatment according to the specific needs of each individual.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
