A patient presents with concerns regarding impulsive decision-making and wanting to change relationship patterns. She was recently diagnosed with postpartum after giving birth 30 days prior. She is currently in a relationship with the child's father and reports being unhappy with his parenting skills. She wants to go out on her own but is afraid he will separate her from the child. In therapy, she has clarified that she does not want to share with him at the child's young age.

I am accepting clients ranging from fourteen years of age and older. I work with individuals, families, and couples. Although I have experience treating an eclectic range of concerns, ideally, my clients may be facing symptoms of anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and PTSD. I have great expertise in treating dually-diagnosed clients, substance misuse, and mental health. The stress and hardships that come with these issues are often too much to handle on your own; please let me help.

I have been in practice for many years, yet I still consider my work a privilege. My focus is consistently on helping clients achieve their own goals, adapting my approach to their needs. I hope that my experience and enthusiasm combine to make me effective. I also believe that life is serious enough and that even the most dire of situations will have an opportunity for the use of humor.

My ideal client wants something better, has no idea what "better" is or looks like, and has no idea where to start. They are still determining if they are ready to start or commit to that change. What they need is a person and a space to figure it out. Deep down, they know where they are right now can be better, whether in relationships, emotions, daily habits, major life goals, or anything in-between. But, most importantly, they want a space where they can process and grow from that place and build a sustainable life.

As a counselor, I have always been aware of the courage and openness a client needs to be able to seek support and engage in counseling services. I also understand how difficult it is to make therapeutic changes in one's life. I am humbled to be privileged to learn about a client's intimate struggles, and I take the depth of that relationship of respect, privacy, boundaries, and expectations very seriously. My ideal client is anyone open to counseling, receiving feedback, and willing to work together on developing action steps towards change and personal growth.

I use emotionally focused therapy to understand the meaning and core feelings underneath conflicts both internal, and in relationships.
I enjoy working with adults, children and adolescents, as well as couples and families. I work with couples seeking to work through a breach of trust in a relationship, or a loss of connection, or who desire to improve intimacy. I also serve adolescents trying to transition to adulthood and navigate high school, college or post college stress. I work with adults and children trying to navigate anxiety that is intrusive. I try to help those with depression over loss or past trauma that hold them back from making meaningful changes and strides in their live. I want to help make difficult family and peer relationships more functional.

I primarily draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT).
Are you feeling distant from each other in your marriage? Have painful hurts piled up and pushed you apart? As you juggle careers and kids does your life together feel more and more miserable? Maybe you have tried to change how you relate, but you feel stuck. In the safe space of therapy, I will listen to you both as we identify the ruts you get trapped in and the strengths that help keep you together.

I also integrate cognitive behavioral (CBT), emotion-focused ( EFT), and solution-focused (SFT) therapy principles.
Good therapeutic experiences are created through a balance of support and challenge in the context of a good therapeutic relationship. As a therapist, I try to create support by listening carefully, trying hard to understand, highlighting your strengths, validating your experiences, and celebrating your growth. I try to provide challenge by encouraging you to develop insight into your your situation, presenting concerns. thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and considering what, if anything, you want to change about these things.

I have worked with individuals and families for the past 20 years within the fields of education and psychology. Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
