I was formally trained at The Postpartum Stress Center in the Art of Holding Therapy and was practicing there for 5 years.
I have been a therapist for the last 8 years, primarily focused on women's health, reproductive health/fertility treatments, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, traumatic birth experience, and perinatal loss. I have my MSS from Bryn Mawr College, and have worked in maternal mental health since. I have varied experience from working in a hospital setting to a therapy practice. Wellness in parenthood is very important to me, and I'm happy to support you.

As a psychotherapist working with Perinatal Loss, Reproductive Mental Health and Maternal Mental Health, I understand that dealing with the time period from conception through pregnancy and postpartum can be particularly complex.
Every day, I sit with women just like you. Women who are struggling. Women who are trying to cope with intense grief, devastating pregnancy loss, the roller coaster of infertility, the anxiety of pregnancy after a loss experience and the challenges of the NICU experience. Every day I support individuals who are managing difficult relationships and trying to cope with overwhelming life transitions.

My experience has led me to work with a variety of different types of clients and challenges. Some of my professional specializations include substance use and damaging habits, challenges with infertility and pregnancy loss, anxiety, depression, and relationship stress stemming from mental health challenges in a partner. Some people are looking to grieve and be supported through a challenging chapter of life, some are struggling with hopelessness, anxiety, or depression, others want to make changes in their lives but just can't seem to leave behind old patterns, and some people struggle with these challenges in combination.

Are you or your child struggling? Does your child display anxiety more often than it seems he or she should? Are they missing out on an enjoyable, if not "typical" grade school or college experience? Or, maybe you are trying to conceive, and having difficulty feeling calm and seeing the outcomes you desire? Wherever you or your loved one is on their journey, I hear you and I see you. Our bodies are wired for stress as a means of protecting us from potential danger, but sometimes we get "stuck" in our stress response, which can keep us from our goals. I help clients challenge these responses to form more healthy, adaptable ones.

You’re looking in the mirror and you know something is missing. You don’t know how you got to this place, but you know you’re unhappy. You snap at your kids for being kids, at your partner for the same things that used to make you laugh. There’s guides for the engagement, the wedding and starting a family. Where’s the app for AFTER? You need someone to take a look from a different perspective, and help you have the hard conversation to find yourself and your relationship again. I can help you set goals individually and as a couple to guide you to a level of self-awareness to manage the obstacles of a relationship and life.

If you have had an experience that seems traumatic to you despite what others may think or say, or any extremely stressful life challenge recently or in the past, I specialize in helping with these issues. If there is something you have never shared with anyone or are frightened by the prospect of disclosing what you've carried for a long time, I am here to listen. The impact of distressing experiences may result in extreme anxiety or fear, episodes of depression, repeated difficulties in personal or family relationships and even physical health issues. Emotional experiences during developmental years may result in complex PTSD.

Every day gives you choices, sometimes too many choices. Yet, it is “your” choice to make today or tomorrow. Through practicing as a psychotherapist for the past ten years, being a parent, professor, and an athlete I have experienced many people having difficulties making choices. So many of us get stuck with feelings of depression, fear and anxiety that making even one choice becomes too difficult. It helps to have someone assist by listening, guiding and being a support. This role is a role that I feel comfortable with as a therapist. My therapeutic style is best described as engaged & supportive

Therapy is useful if you find that your thoughts or emotions are getting in the way of enjoying your life. For some, this means uncomfortable feelings are limiting their ability to fully engage in activities, relationships, and work. For others, thoughts of the past or future might be distracting or distressing. Other people may look to the outside world like they are doing well, but internally they feel they are struggling or that they are not reaching their potential.

Skeptical about therapy or that things can change? I was too, before I saw a therapist myself. I too have experienced the societal stressors and family life issues and come to this work eager to empower my clients that you too can experience sustainable happiness. Do you over function, not feel good enough, feel stuck, or feel misunderstood? Do you wish you could say what you really feel versus what comes out when you are upset or frustrated? Are you or anyone else concerned with your drug or alcohol use, not understanding why? Would you like to be able to see the patterns you have been stuck in, so that you can find a better way?

The two populations I work the most with are moms trying to find the balance in their lives, and the LGBTQ+ population. I am a single mom of a young child with disabilities, and love working with other moms and talking through the challenges that moms face. As a member of and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, I understand the unique struggles that members of the community face regarding coming out, family complications, self-acceptance, and other issues. I help my clients to navigate these issues, and to live their best life possible.

Research shows that individuals in other countries outside of the United States are simply happier. According to U.S. News, the United States comes in at a staggering 19th place, as far as World’s Happiest Countries goes. I have traveled to over 45 countries to gain a better understanding of precisely why this is. I seek to find not only why individuals in other countries are happier, what qualities they possess, in addition to what their daily lifestyles encompass that encourage happiness levels.

Accepting new clients online & in-person — Irritable, tired, worried, angry, lonely… I see many people who would use these words to describe how they feel in their life or relationship. Maybe you’ve tried different things to feel better, but it doesn’t seem to work. You may be missing some connection or acceptance in your life and that’s where I can help.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
