The most important element of counseling is the connection you have with your counselor. I know how important it is for you to feel heard, validated, and aligned with the person you are choosing to trust. Starting the journey to self discovery can be overwhelming, and you need a counselor who understands and appreciates your own uniqueness. If not cared for, old wounds may still hold power over you. I get it can be confusing to navigate the journey to a healthier self, especially because you cannot choose what happened in your past. You do not have to be defined by your past or be at the mercy of unwanted thoughts and feelings.

It's hard to know what to write for these kinds of things. I'm being asked to write about my ideal client, which makes sense in theory, but I have a lot of ideal clients. When someone comes in to see me, they are my focus- I want to listen and get involved in your world. My counseling style is authentic and genuine- my primary belief is that the counseling experience is successful because of relational connection. I do not use CBT or any structured approach, and that is because I strongly believe that there is not one perfect way to do therapy with anyone.

Life is not always easy, and sometimes we need more support than our friends and family can give us, especially when we are going through difficult transitions, relationship disappointments and when life surprises us with unexpected turns and sometimes trauma. When these things happen, we may need someone to walk with us gently looking at where this chapter or narrative came from, pulling or pushing us in a direction we don’t want to go. It might even be a direction that could be helpful, but fear holds us back.

My personal belief is that counseling is meant to be a place for a person to heal from the emotional and mental stressors we all experience as we go through life. My role is to support you to find the best way to experience that healing. I strive to meet my clients where they are at and support them to feel safe enough to grow and achieve their goals.

When people come for therapy, they are feeling uncomfortable. Usually, they are experiencing feelings such as depression, anxiety, or anger. The source of those feelings lies in how they think about themselves or in how they cope with problems in their lives. So, change involves learning new thoughts and behavior. People need to learn self-enhancing ways to think about themselves and what happens to them. They need to change their behavior in order to better meet the challenges of life.

I believe that therapy is a way to explore and practice new ways of interacting meaningfully with ourselves and others. I specialize in working with folks in the LGBTQ+, CNM, and kink communities. If you’re looking for someone to help with gender confirming surgery letters, identity and transition exploration, relationship concerns, or navigating the stresses of simply being a human in these times, I may be a good fit for you!
