Having courage does not mean we are unafraid. Having courage and showing courage mean we face our fears. We are able to say we have fallen, but I will get up. ~Maya Angelou~ As a professional social worker for over 15 years, I have worked with individuals that come from all walks of life. What I have learned is that emotional pain is universal and we don't have to suffer alone or in silence. I believe in the strengths perspective that helps guide people to live a more fulfilling life. When we believe in ourselves great things are possible.

Sometimes, life gets a bit overwhelming and we lose sight of our path. Occasionally, our path becomes clouded with anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, eating disorders, trauma, etc. While walking our path through life, therapy can provide a nonjudgmental space to vent, problem-solve, and seek coping tools. I would like to be that person for you. We will work together to set attainable goals and learn coping skills to help us on our journey through life.

“How do I keep ending up here? Is there something wrong with me?” It feels exhausting and embarrassing to be thriving in most areas of your life, while continuing to struggle with relationships. Running into the same relational issues over and over wreaks havoc on your nervous system and overall well being. Imagine how amazing it would feel to be comfortable and confident in this realm; To cruise this part of your life with the same knowledge and skill as you do with your career; To hold less resentment toward yourself and others in your life.

Finding a connection with someone you can trust, is difficult. Sometimes, finding the right words and identifying emotions can be uncomfortable and frustrating. More often than not, the fear of judgement can be so overwhelming, it prevents us from reaching out and seeking the help we need. I can offer you a warm and welcoming environment, free of judgement but, full of empathy, compassion and understanding. At the end of each session, you will walk away knowing and feeling the interaction was authentic.

At the core of my counseling practice is authenticity and empathy. As a school counselor and pre-licensed professional, I know how frustrating it can be to feel as though there is an insurmountable wall between you and your counselor. I believe counseling to be a partnership within which we co-create a safe space for you to uncover your own inner wisdom. I also emphasize the mind-body connection and enjoy incorporating creative techniques into sessions based upon the client's unique needs, which may include journaling, drawing, songwriting, movement, and mindfulness.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
