I have helped clients cope with various concerns such as depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, trauma, anger management, substance abuse and dual diagnosis only to name a few.
I believe that to enjoy a truly fulfilling life, one must find balance and cohesion amongst all areas of life; spiritual, emotional and mental, achievable through a holistic approach to therapy. I provide individuals a safe place to address their concerns, while treating them with dignity and respect, increasing overall client success. I have always been drawn to helping people, and believe that my down to earth personality and client-centered approach, creates a less intimidating experience, wherein my clients can truly engage in the therapeutic process, promoting profound personal growth and lifelong change.

My clients face a range of life’s challenges: depression, anxiety, peer conflict, communication, transition to college/work, enhancing self-awareness, identity, relationship/family dynamics (separation/divorce), grief, and autism or attention deficit/executive functioning challenges.
Many of my clients are making exciting but often daunting transitions - from Jr High to High School or High School to College, ending or beginning new relationships and careers. Change is so often viewed with anxiety and negativity. Yet, change is happening all around us every day. How can we make change a positive experience in our lives? How can we choose to change something that is not working? How can we learn and grow from a challenging experience? As a counselor, I believe my job is to create a space where clients can explore these and other topics, in a way that ultimately positively impacts their day to day lives.

Anxiety, grief, anger, love - Let’s talk about it. Many of us feel exhausted trying to manage, reason with, numb, or shame how me feel. And if we have a partner, we feel overwhelmed trying to understand ourselves AND someone else. This leads to communication flops and a loss of intimacy. Rather than seeing you as “one messed up mind,” I see you as having many different parts. For both individuals and couples, I help you find peace by getting to know all your parts. In practice this looks like a combination of practical, everyday changes an deep inner work.

Give me a break, are you serious? How did I get here? No one understands me, I'm anxious..I'm depressed. How many times have you said these exact words this week? I sure can relate-and if you can, you’re in the right place. Welcome. Self-empowerment, radical acceptance & authentic human connection will be the cornerstone of our work. I utilize a strength-based humanistic approach to guide us...but healing doesn't happen via theory. It lies within you - your hopes, hardships, successes & infinite wisdom. Sometimes we'll laugh. Often, we'll cry. But either way...

I am trained in evidenced based treatments to help with anxiety (including OCD using ERP), depression, ADHD, and general behavioral challenges.
I specialize in working with children (as young as 2 years old), adolescents, young adults, and families. Even when I am working individually with a child, I involve parents in every session so that the whole family learns new skills and communication patterns. As a parent myself, I understand that when our children are suffering, we suffer. I seek to support the entire family on their path toward change and better health. We often hire coaches or tutors to help our children develop in sports or academics. I consider myself an emotion coach, here to help children and parents navigate their emotional worlds and achieve their goals.

I love working with adults who want to get curious about the ways their past affects their present. Beginning in childhood, we learned to adapt to our circumstances and adjust our behaviors to maintain safety and security with others. Many of us found along the way that our emotions, needs, or wants were "too much" for the people we turned to for connection and protection. As a result we may have come to believe that we had to hide parts of ourselves in order to be loved or cared for. Over time, this hiding can lead to feelings of distress, anxiety, depression, shame, relationship challenges, and even chronic pain.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
