I enjoy working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, and grief and loss, as well as with women with perinatal mood disorders, such as postpartum depression and anxiety.
People can experience dark days at times, where the future feels uncertain and everyday routines become difficult. Perhaps you feel stuck in what seems like an endless cycle of anxiety, depression, or traumas from the past, or are experiencing a painful life transition. Many people have insight into their problems, but struggle to find the ability to get “unstuck.” My desire is to help you find a new path, break down old habits, and discover new tools to cope. I have worked in the field of counseling for over fifteen years, helping people of various ages and backgrounds.

I see clients with a wide range of issues from depression, anxiety, OCD, to simple and complex trauma, simple and complex bereavement, and PTSD/CPTSD.
It's been my experience that people usually seek therapy when they have tried everything they know to improve their life and it's just not working. Clients are often quite desperate when they enter therapy. I believe my job as a therapist is to give people new options for what to do to make things better. I try to help with kindness and humor, drawing on a wealth of knowledge, information, and experience to help my clients achieve their goals, whatever they may be. I am continually awed by the amazing ability of the human spirit to grow, heal, and develop.

Have you experienced a traumatic event, or recently lost someone close to you? Have you been avoiding people, places and activities that may cause to you have intrusive thoughts, involuntary memories, or flashbacks? This can be extremely painful and debilitating but is a common response to trauma and loss. Unfortunately, many people learn to avoid topics related to their trauma or loss for fear that talking about it will cause uncontrollable painful emotions to arise. This can lead to feelings of guilt, shame, numbness, feeling detached from others and low self-esteem and can have negative long-term impacts.

Anxiety, depression, stress, postpartum concerns, grief, substance use issues… I’m here for it all & all the less talked about in-betweens.
On the outside, you look like you’ve got it all figured out and everyone wonders how you manage to do it all. On the inside, you feel like a jumbled mess and have no idea how you’re going to keep it all going for much longer. You’re so used to taking care of everyone else and putting yourself last, if you’re even on your own list at all. I bet you’re having trouble sleeping and difficulty remembering what you even ate yesterday (did you even eat yesterday?).

I have a deep belief that life should be enjoyed. There are many things that can create limits in life, and whether it is our own fault, or someone else's, these limits do not have to keep us from enjoying life. I have extensive work with people who have struggled with drug and alcohol addictions, sexual addictions, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, as well as parenting and adoption concerns. I have seen clients achieve balance in life, greater self-awareness, and overcome ways of thinking and behavior that have limited life's enjoyment and success.

Life presents all of us with situations in which we’d benefit from a little support or a new perspective. Sometimes, these take the form of serious events – such as bereavement or a traumatic incident. More often, they are “everyday” challenges like relationship struggles, child or parenting issues, or work frustrations; or maybe it’s difficult even to determine the reasons behind long-standing feelings of anxiety, anger, depression, or poor self-esteem. Whatever the circumstance, seeking an objective, professional, and confidential sounding board can help clarify thoughts or patterns and make goal achievement far more likely.

I am a versatile, dedicated clinician who is open to working with individuals ages 14+. If you are feeling stuck, depressed, anxious or directionless, allow me to walk alongside you as we come up with a solution together. I often use an individualized, eclectic approach (CBT, ACT, self-compassion, grief work). I will meet you wherever you are without judgment. Sometimes, we are in need of support, or a nudge in the right direction. Sometimes, it is hard to know what we may need. It would be my honor to help you if you can relate to any of the above.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
