Welcome! I count it a privilege to walk alongside others on their journey to healing and wellness. Working with you to resolve the issues that keep you stuck, in pain, and/or unable to move forward is important to me. I have a passion to help others reach their full potential in growing toward the person they desire to be. This passion comes from my own story and the journey toward wholeness. Emotional pain can keep us stuck in patterns we would like to change but do not know how. If there is an issue holding you back from having the life you desire I can help.

We all have times when we struggle and need support. This can be for a variety of reasons such as grief/loss, relationship stress, family issues, mental illness, substance abuse, trauma, domestic violence. You may feel like no one understands or can help. You may have tried counseling before and think it will never work. But if you find yourself still searching, still struggling, trying to find peace in your life I want you to know there is hope. You deserve peace. You deserve to find a way out of the pain. You deserve to be happy and live a joyful life. You do not have to do this alone I am here to help.

Are you looking for a therapy experience that feels...different? You may be noticing patterns in your life—things in your relationships, from your past, or in the way you think or feel that have you feeling stuck. You want to start feeling better day-to-day but you’d also like to get to the deeper roots behind this. You need somewhere that doesn’t feel stuffy, intimidating or overly clinical—a place where you can feel comfortable being honest with someone else and (more importantly) with yourself. Because you know there’s more to life than this cycle you feel caught in and you are ready to discover what that looks like for you.

I am incredibly passionate about my work as a therapist and find it to be a true honor to walk alongside my clients on their journey to find healing, peace, and restoration. My main priority is to offer a safe, judgement free zone where a client can develop rapport quickly and build a genuine connection with someone who truly cares about their well-being and growth. I am a firm believer that empathy, compassion, and an ability to understand the pain, hurt, and challenges my clients are currently facing is absolutely necessary as these are the things that help build the foundation for trust to develop in a therapeutic relationship.

I have specific experience working with survivors of abuse/assault, servicemembers, & Veterans.
Do you have trouble sleeping? Do you find yourself thinking about things you wish you could leave in the past? Are you struggling with anxiety, worry, or feeling disconnected? Are nightmares keeping you awake? My practice focuses on trauma recovery and sleep problems. Some of my clients deal with both of these issues, while some are only affected by one. But both have a major impact on all areas of life, including mood, relationships, school/work, and physical health. Many of my clients feel helpless because other treatments did not work. I practice evidence-based therapy that can help even if other treatments have failed.

I am trained in EMDR, a highly-effective treatment for the lasting effects of traumatic experience, such as emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse, crime victimization, relational trauma, and much more.
I am deeply committed to supporting people around healing from experiences that have affected their ability to live the kind of life that they desire. A life that is free from deep emotional pain, and that allows them to be open to new and satisfying experiences. Therapy with me begins with establishing a safe and trusting relationship which becomes the context in which we can explore and modify those parts of your experience that interfere with optimal functioning and which block your ability to feel deeply satisfied with your life.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
