We all experience struggles and challenges as we move through life. I honor the incredible courage it takes to seek help and take this step towards improving your life. Are you experiencing difficulty in your relationships, feeling stuck, struggling to cope with loss or feeling alone? You can create change. You don't have to remain anxious, depressed, confused or paralyzed in relationships or life. I believe deeply in the profoundly transformative and enduring nature of psychotherapy. When we're feeling stagnant, overwhelmed or alone in our suffering, therapy can help us to untangle our emotions, clarify our struggles, and better understand ourselves and others.

My experience is working with individuals centered around grief, trauma and anxiety.
Having courage does not mean we are unafraid. Having courage and showing courage mean we face our fears. We are able to say we have fallen, but I will get up. ~Maya Angelou~ As a professional social worker for over 15 years, I have worked with individuals that come from all walks of life. What I have learned is that emotional pain is universal and we don't have to suffer alone or in silence. I believe in the strengths perspective that helps guide people to live a more fulfilling life. When we believe in ourselves great things are possible.

I have found that all people have inner strength and resilience in overcoming extreme difficulties through devastating loss, disease, and other hardships.
Over our lifetime we experience medical, physical, psychological and relational challenges. Therapy provides emotional support during these times, so we can transform our feelings of fear and vulnerability to strength and confidence. By being aware, of how we respond and why we react to change the way we do can help us grow. All transitions in life effect our functioning within ourselves and with others. Emotional Support Therapy provides the tools needed to unify our emotional and intellectual processing, thus promoting self-growth and well-being in the face of life's changes.

I strive to provide therapy with the qualities I would want as a client: the ability to provide space to feel comfortable and supported, cultivate mutual respect, suspend judgement while walking side by side through dark moments, and share honest and compassionate feedback. I aim to listen and point out areas of your story that are important to be attentive to. In fact, as your therapist it is my responsibility to act as a detective for your feelings, thoughts, ideas, and emotions. These qualities have shaped my areas of specialization, including EMDR for trauma as well as general therapy for anxiety, depression, and grief/ loss.

Grief, trauma, insecurities, anxiety and depression do not discriminate. You are not alone. If you find it difficult to move beyond it and you feel stuck, this is normal. Our body keeps score and remembers. This is why I integrate techniques that connect the mind and body. It is important to release stored up tension and stress, as well as addressing our core beliefs about our experiences. While creating coping mechanisms is important I will also help you discover root causes and address obstacles in a holistic manner.

I specialize in working with adults who struggle with anxiety, trauma, or loss and help people adapt to change.
Counseling in a safe space to identify and explore the things that keep you stuck and prevent you from living the life you want to lead. A safe non-judgmental environment will allow you to find or enhance motivation for change and identify choices that may have been overlooked or seen as not being possible in the past. Many people entering therapy are overwhelmed or find themselves at a crossroads in life when they need to adapt to new circumstances or adjust to uncomfortable changes in employment, relationships, or loss.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
