You don't have to continue managing your anxiety and depression alone.
You want to be successful and self-assured, but your anxiety or depression has left you struggling with confidence and unsure of who you are. You may even feel confused as to what emotions you are experiencing or why you are feeling this way. This could be affecting your relationships, your work, or other areas of your life, and you're tired of pretending everything is fine when it's not. One thing is for certain: you're ready for relief. You're ready to feel good about yourself, to learn how to navigate these thoughts and feelings. You're ready to feel peace.

I work with individuals and couples to address a number of concerns including but not limited to infidelity, trauma, addictions, communication issues, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.
The process of empowerment through self-discovery was one of the greatest gifts I gave myself and is one of my primary goals as a therapist. I assist clients with discovering strength by working through the emotions and negative experiences that have left them feeling lost, unworthy, and/or defeated. I want clients to know they are not alone and that past or present circumstances do not have to define who they are or who they want to be. Change is not easy, yet within conscious effort, introspection, and clarity, exists the power for clients to direct their lives.

My approach is rooted in creating a compassionate space where individuals can explore their inner selves, fostering self-awareness and illuminating the path towards light, happiness, and therapeutic change. DBT, CBT, IPSRT, MI, CFT, CPT; tailed to you!.. You know that saying, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” Well, I challenge that! Let’s live a life where we are mindful of both the good and not-so-good times, solution-focused instead of problem-focused, and where we can be content and satisfied, as a minimum! A life where even if there are storm clouds, we know how to make a few rainbows of our own until the sun comes out again.

My ideal client is one who is looking to better connect with themselves and those around them. They may struggle with effective communication, or successfully navigating the complexity of a deep and meaningful relationship. Most of all my ideal client is one who is willing to be open and honest about their experiences and what they want out of life.

I believe that the counselor relationship serves to validate and to empower the client to live the life of their choosing. I approach counseling from a phenomenological perspective, recognizing that the client is the expert of their own experiences. I will work to understand, to collaborate, to guide the client by utilizing the tools in my toolbox and by highlighting the tools the client has in theirs.

I have experience working with adults, college-aged adults, adolescents struggling with severe mental illness ( depression, anxiety, trauma) and substance use.
I currently have early morning openings for telehealth on Mon & Thurs! Understanding the unsettling feelings, emotions, and thoughts that you may be experiencing can be an incredibly complex task to grapple with on your own. It can feel even more daunting when you think of how to try and explain what is going on to someone else. I strive to provide a supportive and collaborative environment to assist you in taking the time to explore the things you seek to understand. My goal is to help you build your “mental tool box” with effective coping skills, confidence, and self-awareness to tackle any obstacle that is thrown your way.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
