There’s this scene in the movie Fatal Attraction, where Glenn Close’s character calmly tells Michael Douglas’ character “I’m not gonna be ignored.” Something about that scene seared in my memory, and it comes to mind when I am talking with someone about their struggles. Whether it is painful relationship conflict, childhood trauma, grief, past bitterness or regret, overwhelming anger or anxiety, the words “I’m not gonna be ignored” play over and over again. Because the things that have been ignored, suppressed, or pushed away never go away. They just keep resurfacing until you face them and do something.
